As Voter Rolls Bulge in Florida, Democrats Keep Edge
TALLAHASSEE - The registered Florida electorate appears much as it did four years ago - only bigger.
Despite an additional 1.5 million registered voters added to the rolls, and a state population constantly in transformation, Democrats again hold a slight advantage over Republicans by 4 percentage points, according to the official tally released Friday by Secretary of State Glenda Hood.

Democrats seized on the persisting advantage, saying this time it will translate to a Florida victory for their presidential nominee, Sen. John Kerry.

``The difference between now and 2000 is the issues,'' Florida Democratic Party spokeswoman Allie Merzer said. ``The voters are going to be concerned about the state of our economy, health care and Iraq, and that is going to drive them to vote for Kerry.''

2. It's not November 2 yet.
Oh, I'm sure they're up to something. 'October Surprise' indeed.

3. The methods they used in 2000 are already failing big time
So they are going crazy trying to disenfranchise the many new Democratic voters who already seem to be outvoting Republicans in this state. Already in the two most Republican heavy counties in the state they are attempting to new voters votes thrown out. In both Seminole and Brevard counties where registered democrats amount to under 32 percent of the voters, Democrats amount to 41 percent of the votes already cast. They are trying to get 14,000
voters removed from the Seminole County rolls based on a technicality. I do not beleive that the judges will allow this very large percentage of a county's voters to be removed from the rolls, but the attempt indicates that Republicans are very fearlful of voter turnout in this state. There will be serious hell to pay if they disenfranchise the new voters as a large number of them are black voters. This could end up in the Supreme Court before the end and if it does, it could mean that the votes will not be removed before the final date in December when all votes must be sent to the electoral college, as occured in 2000. By blocking all efforts to remove votes for five weeks, Democrats can assure that all votes are counted. The courts are very likely to be much more cautious this time around when trying to remove votes from the pile.

4. Hey, wait a minute!
Despite an additional 1.5 million registered voters added to the rolls, and a state population constantly in transformation, Democrats again hold a slight advantage over Republicans by 4 percentage points, according to the official tally released Friday by Secretary of State Glenda Hood.

But, but, NPR told me just this morning that new registrations were breaking even in Florida between Dems and repubs...and they're always fair and impartial, aren't they?
