As different as I am mentally from a freeper, you are still my brothers, as is every human. Sometimes you see people you care about make bad decisions because they don't respect themselves. I know members of my family that get their information from RW news sources like Drudge and Limbaugh. It is not good for people to believe those lies, it turns them into deluded, paranoid, hatemongers. But I think that is hurting the Rush listeners more than the people they actually hate. It causes people to close their normally open hearts to family members that actually care about them. The propaganda Rush and Fox News spreads hurts their listeners the most out of ANYBODY.

It will be a sad day when all freepers who believe such viscious lies have to wake up to the shame and embarassment of being taken for a ride for so many years. I truly feel sad, as that can be a painful process. My father is inapproachable right now because of hate radio. He is not the same, level headed man he used to be. THe more he is confronted with the truth, the more he backs away. It is killing him. And I hope it doesn't kill you, freepers. One day, you will wake up and realize that liberals aren't against you, we just want you to wake up as well so you can share in our beautiful and positive ideas. I used to be a freeper as well. I was raised on Limbaugh and Mark Belling, the local freeper talk radio host in Milwaukee. I believed in the lies for a while, but I realized that their lies were only hurting me. I blamed my problems on liberals and blacks, and called liberals weak. But I realized that it was really a smoke screen for the weakness that I, myself, felt inside of me. When I learned to embrace love, instead of fear, my opinion of myself got better, and I made better friends.

It is important for freepers to know that you can embrace love and still not be weak. The strongest men in this world are also the most loving. Look at Jesus. I find it ironic that people with so much hate for homosexuals and others not like them hide behind the teachings of Christ.

So stop listening to RW hate radio, and get a grip on reality. I guaruntee you, it is a lot better on our side of the fence!

These guys don't want to change, any more than your father. They would have to admit, to themselves and their peer group, that they've been wrong for all these years, mis-lead by their cultural idols. Immersed in lies, full of hate and sick contempt for the unfamiliar, eventually they reach a tipping point where the pain of honestly thinking about their situation is too great to handle.

Changing core beliefs takes strength of will, bravery, and motivation. The lucky ones figure it out early in life, and have something to live for. The longer people go down the path of predatory greed, blaming minorities and liberals for their own failures, the more they have invested in that worldview, and the harder it is to alter course. The classic example that comes to mind is the Germans of 1945: after the Allies found Hitler's extermination camps on the way to Berlin, they had to bring disbelieving townsfolk to see for themselves, to tour the facilities, before they would believe what their fuhrer had wrought. Some of them are still in denial.

It's a shame, really. Some otherwise intelligent and decent people get suckered into the trap of vicious reactionary thinking, and you'd hope they could be swayed by a bit of clever prose. It's never that easy.

It just seems a little juvenile, IMO, to be so concerned with members of another website. Who really cares ? The real enemy are ALL right wingers, not just "freepers". It trivilizes the real battle we and this country face, IMO.
