I get the impression from more than a few people that I talk with from the Northeast and Midwest that they're looking forward to having one of their own in charge for the first time since Kennedy. Let's face it, the last Northerner in charge was Ford in 1976....and he was an accident. It might be a marginal effect, but it probably buys us a couple of votes in OH, WI, IA, PA, and WI (and maybe FL too).

I hope you are right. No longer should these United States be held back by the south. Put back the New England patriot in the white house.

in viewing this as a regional battle, but it is crucial that Kerry win this, simply to make it viable for liberal politicians from the northeast can be competetive in the presidential race. It seems ridiculous that the nation MUST elect a southerner.
Kerry would be the first person elected from the northeast since John F Kennedy. He would share several other similarities - his initials for one! But he would also be the first Catholic since him as well.
All in all, aside from the obvious policy differences, a Kerry victory would be a step forward in many ways. It can go a long way in uniting the country once again.

I think the trouble is that Bush acts like every Northerner's Southern Nightmare, minus the overt racism.
If a reasonable man like Gore had been in the WH for the past term, nobody would worry about him being from a different area. I'd tend to classify what you're seeing as just another facet of Bush backlash.

7. I'm tired of the south controlling national politics. |

I'd admit that I'm longing for a non-southerner in the WH. There are other regions in this country that would like to see one of their own in there.
