Interesting weekend - canvassing
I had an interesting weekend. Working the streets and other tidbits.
Friday night, I convinced a voter to volunteer (he could only work Election Day but that is better than nothing).
Canvassed a little on Saturday (had family matters to tend to)
Sunday at church was interesting; I had an honest discussion with on of the church leaders about the fact that people in the church were pushing their politics. This guy knew I was for Kerry and did a lot of campaigning. He asked my why I did not wear my Kerry pin to church and I told him it was not right to push politics at church, that I did not want to be preached politics and therefore, I could not push politics either. He acknowledged he supported bush, but as the conversation continued, I pointed out to him (it was very open candid) that many of his beliefs in the conversation did not reflect the current republican values. I don't know if I changed anything there, but left feeling better.
Sunday afternoon I really hit the streets canvassing knocking out a whole sub-division. There was mixed results but not bad.
The ones that amaze me are the retired veterans, boy they really unload on bush. You usually get to talk to them for 10 - 15 minutes or more. They have some stories to tell and can not stand bush or his swift buddies.
I ran across several houses that were split, can't imagine what life is like in those houses.
There is always the funny ones too, like the house you knock on and the little ones are running bare through the house (bath time). Or the people that come down the street as you are knocking on their door, and they drive past real slow, then come around the block and pull in their garage as you walk down the street.
All-in-all it was a good weekend

1. Good work - the ground game is going to be the difference
In 2000 most polls had Gore behind. It was his ground game that really won him the popular vote and even made the states like Ohio closer than expected.

This year the polls are closer. Our ground game is going to be more crucial because of all the new voters. There is a lot of enthusiasm on our side, the key is to make sure they turn out.

2. I appreciate your efforts!
You sound like a committed, hard-working person who is doing the Kerry campaign a lot of good! I especially appreciate your sensitivity to when it is appropriate to campaign and when it isn't. Thanks for the report and all you do! :yourock:
