MCAULIFFE: BUSH MUST EXPLAIN WHY HE FAILED TO STRIKE ZARQAWI

Washington, DC - In response to today's Wall Street Journal story that "some former officials and military officers increasingly wonder whether the Bush administration made a mistake months before the start of the war by stopping the military from attacking camp...," DNC Chairman Terry McAuliffe said:

"Today the President is scheduled to offer yet another rationalization for his failed war in Iraq. He should start by explaining to the American people why he failed to heed the advice of our military to strike Zarqawi.

"Bush had the information, the means and the opportunity to remove Zarqawi - but did not. Bush's blunder has left our troops and the American people more vulnerable and at greater risk.

"Today when he brags about having kept America safer, he should explain why he let Zarqawi go."
