Boston-area DUers: COME TO THE KERRY PARTY ON ELECTION NIGHT |
|
For Immediate Release October 22, 2004 "Election Night Celebration with John Kerry and John Edwards" At Boston's Copley Square Set for Tuesday evening, November 2nd Washington, DC. The Kerry-Edwards campaign announced that the City of Boston and Mayor Tom Menino will host "Election Night Celebration with John Kerry and John Edwards" in Boston's Copley Square Tuesday evening, November 2nd. "Boston is home, it's where we started our campaign, it's where John Edwards and I were nominated and it's where we will finish our successful campaign for the White House," said the Democratic nominee for President John Kerry, "Mayor Menino and the city of Boston hosted a world class convention this summer and we appreciate all the hard work they did in hosting our national party convention. We are honored that they will host our victorious election night celebration," Kerry added. "This celebration is a great way for us to pay tribute to our hometown candidate, Senator John Kerry and the important issues that his campaign has been fighting for. I am confident that the same cooperation that was employed among our local, state, and federal authorities for this summer's Democratic National Convention will ensure the safest and most secure event possible on Election Night," Mayor Menino said. The Night's Festivities
Copley Square will be where the public can watch election returns and will be treated to performances and appearances by special guests and musical entertainers, culminating with John Kerry and John Edwards's victory speeches. Details of the full program will be released in the coming days. Copley Square
Copley Square is one of the city's most attractive open spaces. Created in 1916 on the site of the original MIT campus, Copley Square is ringed by some of Boston's best known architectural jewels including: H.H. Richardson's Trinity Church; Charles Follen McKim's Boston Public Library; New Old South Church; and I.M. Pei's Hancock Place office tower. Copley Square is also well known the world over due its proximity to the finish line of the Boston Marathon. The Boston Public Library (BPL) will serve as the backdrop and focal point for the election night festivities. Rich in tradition, the BPL was established in 1848, and was the first publicly supported municipal library in America as well as the first public library to lend a book, the first to have a branch library and the first to have a children's room. The august McKim Building of the BPL which faces Copley Square is a National Historic Landmark and was recently renovated and restored to its original splendor.
