so, I finally watched that Bush campaign wolf commercial. |
|
:wtf: I spent the first few moments trying to figure out what the point of the commercial was before I finally realized, "oh, so those wolves are supposed to be the big bad enemy terrorists waiting to get us." The final scene with the wolves looked like something from a National Geographic documentary.
I'm sorry, I'm just having a difficult time wrapping my mind around the possibility that even Bush's campaign advisers could possibly be this utterly incompetent, especially given how much cash his campaign is flush with. I'm not sure what's scarier -- the fact that Bush's advisers think this schlocky commercial would convince the American public, or the possibility that they might actually be right.
Anyone here observe the reaction of any non-partisan swing voters to this commercial?

1. there was a CNN quick poll this morning that asked |
|
if anything at this point would change your choice of candidates, and early on it said 100% "NO!"
I think that ad was just a waste of money.

8. Doggies are coming to get us. |
|
Only a group of totally non-environmentalists and non-animal lovers would view those wolf-doggies as threatening.
The earlier bear ad from prior campaign (Reagan, I think) was effective because of the narrative. This wolf ad did not have adequate narrative to convey what they intended.

9. I think we are supposed to have a residual fear of wolves |
|
but quite honestly, when you know that the last time wolves threatened humanity was in teh 1300's or so, it is kind of hard to think of these endangered animals as a threat.
