Any news about the Cleveland Plain Dealer's endorsement?
Edited on Mon Oct-25-04 12:31 PM by Gaffey Duck
I've heard it's Spokane all over again: Their editorial board is for Kerry but the owner is trying to force them endorse Dumbya.

The fate of this election could literally hang on this paper's decision.

2. Gee, ya think Alex Macheskee's sucking up to Bush in 2002
might have anything to do with it?

I remember that the President of the pee D was kissy-kissy with * about the time Kucinich was pushing for the steelworkers in Cleveland.

I remember that Bush had no problems pronouncing that name, but talked about "KOOK-in-ich", despite the fact that he had to deal with him and had pending legislation from Dennis.

7. Cleveland Plain Dealer
Didn't see any endorsement as of yet. I have a hard time believing that it would matter all that much, here anyway. Kerry signs here outnumber * 10 to 1.......feels like I'm in Kerry Country! :kick:

8. CPD...
The Smirkingchimp site was really encouraging their readers to send them very cordial, polite, friendly e-mails encouraging them to endorse Senator Kerry ~~ :)

I sent them a positive e-mail telling them that I just knew they would do the right thing and endorse JK ~~ :loveya:

as far as i know, they were going to do their endorsement this past sunday, but held it.

i didn't immediately believe the rumor, but it didn't stop me from sending them an email about it anyway. i made it to give reasons why i think the paper should back kerry. i wasn't inflammatory, and i did mention the rumor.

i have high hopes they will endorse kerry. i can't see anything about the climate in this area that would permit the paper to retain any credibility if they endorsed shrubbie.

j, clevelander...

10. The rumor is true and they made a compromise
They had the story on my local news last night. It is true that the editorial staff voted to endorse Kerry but the publisher, who is a Republican, wanted the paper to endorse Bush. Their compromise is to endorse no one.

For president . . .
The voters know the issues and understand the stakes; we cannot imagine they need further advice about the men

In a year of deep political divisions, this newspaper's opinion section is experienc ing deep divisions of its own.

After nearly four years spent watching George W. Bush as president, and after a year of watching Sen. John Kerry campaign to oust him, we have decided not to add one more potentially polarizing voice to a poisoned debate. We make no endorsement for president this year.

11. Plain Dealer opted to NOT endorse
Edited on Tue Oct-26-04 06:48 AM by jimshoes
either candidate. It kind of lamely lambasted both candidates on their own real or perceived foibles. It called for Greater Clevelanders to make up their own minds as to who is the best choice. Maybe all our e-mails had some effect on the publisher after all. Looking for link now.
