I love Patti!, BUT.. for Mitchell to suggest that Patti LaBelle is more of a draw than Kerry and Clinton, is ridiculous.. and freakin' insult to African Americans.

Wanna know why she does? She works for a Republican doctor and he "encourages" her to vote repuke and is always feeding her all kinds of bullshit about Dems, etc. Her daughter is my friend and is distressed about this and tries to counteract what the boss doctor does, but her mom is thinking she'll get in his good graces if she is all republican.

When I was registering people to vote, I had many African-Americans make me tell them I was a Democrat first. Then we would engage in a bit of congratulatory behavior and they'd fill out the form. Or I could just say "I'm supporting Kerry" and they'd say "Good. You've got a brain."

No, she does not own black people. But she thinks that they have no destiny apart from white people, who control their destiny. My heart is still pounding from that rally!.

It was a great mix of races and ages - I was in line behind a whole bunch of black kids from a local charter high school, stood amidst a bunch of fresh-out-of-college white couples, and in front of a bunch of middle-aged and older folks from Chinatown. Also, there were a LOT of union folks there.

No "forced" diversity (like the Republican convention), just a rainbow of city people who decided to come out to see Kerry and The Big Dawg.
