Gerald Ford is such a rock star. We're screwed. It's going to take the focus off of the caca story.

19. People in OH
probably don't know that. They probably don't know that Arnold also signed some domestic partners legislation that really pissed off the RW here in CA. This is the kind of stuff that won't make the papers anywhere but in CA.

All the voters of OH will see is Bush and Arnold on the stage together. Arnold, the Governator, campaigning for Bush. :puke: Pisses me off no end.

Why he is shilling for Bush is beyond me.

9. Nah, there'll be a Bush 43/Bush 41 rally.
The webmasters at whitehouse.gov will be up all night "correcting" the syntax errors in that transcript. :P

10. Actually, there won't. Bush 41 opposes foreign policy of 43.

15. Funny thing. I doubt Ford would campaign for him.
I wish that Ford had been elected president in 1976. I think politics would be much better today had that been the case.

Ford wasn't uber-conservative, but can you imagine a Democratic party without Carter?

What reason would non-DLC people have to stay in the Democratic Party? or Evangelicals? Human Rights fans?

Carter is a huge boost to morale, and being President gave him the opportunity to change the world. With Ford as President, would we have:

Peace between Egypt and Israel?

Stabilized situation in Latin America? (Panama Canal)

Elections in Indonesia? Hugo Chavez in Venezuala?

A Department of Education?

A Nobel Prize winning President?

True...Carter didn't get reelected and Reagan won. But the Repub party is also stuck on Reagan...they haven't won the popular vote since he was in office.

21. I can easily imagine the party being stronger.
I think that Kennedy, for instance, would have run stronger against Reagan in 1980, than Carter did. The "non-DLCers" were in charge, because there were no "DLCers." We had rightists in the south, who were assuredly drifting out of the party. And I think that's fine.

22. You could be right....but you'll have to forgive my bias...
lol...I live probably 10 miles away from Carter.

So I'm not exactly being objective here. I think Carter's loss weakened the Democratic Party, yes...but it strengthened human rights, which became his focus in retirement.
