Is anyone NOT feeling confident going into this last week?
I have some Republican co-workers who think it's over (Bush is a sure thing), but others who seem more realistic and who are very nervous.

I am HUGELY enthusiastic and feeling very confident, but some of the polls I'm seeing don't indicate that. I'm inclined to just dismiss the polls and keep working hard, but DAMN, I feel good about this, and that seems to be the general opinion here (been gone for 2 days, though).

Is there anyone who has a sense of forboding?

28. Early voting in NM has generally gone to the pubbies
Not this time. It's heavily favoring Kerry, much to the chagrin of the right wing blow dried bobbleheads who reported it on last night's TV snooze.

Hell yes, I'm confident that Bush can't win an honest election. I don't think he can win an election with this level of GOP dirty tricks. People are ANGRY, and it's showing up at the polls.

30. I was in Freepland this weekend - San Diego, California, and
I could not believe how FEW George Jr. bumperstickers and signs I saw. It was at least 50-50 George Jr. / Kerry. I was totally amazed. That might explain some of my confidence.

I think we're gonna win!

7. I would prefer it if Kerry was clearly ahead.
It's true that if Bush, the incumbent, is not clearly ahead, he is losing. Intellectually I know it, but I would only be reassured by a total, visible, unmistakeable meltdown of Bush support. He's too close to winning in too many states for me to be confident.

14. Amen
This is my first time really following an election, so it's a little nerve-wracking to watch the battleground state polls sway back and forth. I know everyone who's done this before says to just ignore them and keep focused on the end game, but it's hard to do. I still think Kerry's going to win it. I'd just sleep easier if the polls showed that, too.

10. I have to be honest, I'm extremely nervous
One can explain away this poll or that poll, but when they're all showing it close or Bush with a slight lead. If Bush wins Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota and Wisconsin, he's going to win, dammit. If he wins New Mexico and Ohio along with Florida, he'll win big. I'm not saying he will win all those states, but it's so close in all of them. So, yes, I have a big sense of foreboding.

Sorry, I have to be honest here. Worst thing one can do is fool oneself.

13. I do. Cumulative effect of * being ahead so often in so many polls...
even though the margin is slight and Kerry IS ahead in some. Just makes me concerned.

I know, I know. The undecideds break for the challenger, newly registered voters have maybe not been polled adequately, absentee votes from abroad, cell phone users, etc. I hope all these things amount to a Kerry win.

But I'm concerned when I look at the actual numbers before my eyes. We're struggling to keep Hawaii & Pa???? Then again, * is fighting to keep Ohio. I guess it evens out, really. But I'd feel better if Kerry were ahead in more of the polls, even by a smidgeon.

33. Where did I read Carville saying "you know what you call a candidate...
...who counts on new voters? A looser."

We simply cannot count on the "secret Kerry vote". I think most of us know it's there, but you're right, we need to be at least tied going into the last couple days. I think, though, that that's gonna happen.

Has Hawaii ever gone Republican? That's one poll I simply cannot take seriously. That'd be like Alaska going Democratic.

I'm not confident but that's because there's a huge block of people out there who I can't comprehend. I can't comprehend why so many intelligent, moderate people are supporting so huge a failure as Bush, when the alternative is someone who is bright, articulate, and accomplished.

...I'm also confident that the Republicans are going to do everything they can to steal the election. I'm convinced that if Bush "wins" again it will be because of dirty tricks. If it were a clean election--which I don't think it will be--I think Kerry would win hands down.

20. Cautiously optimistic
Turnout is the key. Unfortunately most people out there aren't as hyper political as we on DU. We've been given a big break with this 380 ton missing explosives story. Plays right into the theme of Bush's endless chain of incompetent mistakes. Kerry must hammer this home.

8 more days - plus however long it takes to sort out the lawsuits and recounts. Sign. I don't think I can take much more of this.

22. Always Cautiously Optimistic - But The Numbers Look Good
We've been saying for over a year to not pay much mind to surface polls. Sure the race is very tight, but you look at the disaffection going on in the country and it looks very bad for the incumbent. Not to mention the fact that Kerry has won back all the key groups like women, moderates, seniors, Latinos, etc.

And, ironically, the electoral map may turn out to help us a great deal if Ohio and Pennsylvania maintain their course.

The Kerry campaign is confident, and that confidence is based on what they're seeing, which is not being reflected in public polls. Even that WaPo story a few days ago quoted a GOP source saying Bush's internal polls show him performing worse than most public polls indicate.

I am feeling more confident that the American poeple's intention will be to turn Bush out of office.

With that said, I am not at all confident that the Bush campaign will allow the will of the people to be realized, whether it be via dirty tricks, rigged voting machines, or some other post-election tactic.

I will be holding my breath until Kerry actually puts his hand on a bible and is sworn in.

37. Aside from a little rollercoastering
I'm feeling generally good. I think that the Dems have the "eye of the tiger" right now. It's going to come down to who wants this election more. And I bet the Bush campaign isn't as energized as we are. I don't think alot of Bush supporters are all that thrilled with their candidate. And many of us just love ours (after a bit of time to get to know him, that is.)

The only thing I worry about is voter fraud now. If this is a fair election, I say we win in a landslide. As it stands, we may need a landslide just to win.

I feel terrible about Florida. I just read an article in the NYT. They're in for it again this year. I hope someone escorts the black vote to the polls and stands up for them against the felon list. There must be a way to prove you are not the person on the list.

40. Good, stay nervous
If we are worried about the election and we keep everyone we know worried about the election it will help turnout. Let your Republican friends be confident. Tell them it's in the bag for Bush. They may as well not even bother voting, it's going to be such a landslide. :)

But yeah, I'm nervous. I feel confident when I read the posts here at DU but then I go and read other news sites that are saying all sorts of bad things about Kerry's chances and I wonder if I'm cocooning myself here. But at this point in the race I think I would rather remain upbeat. There's not much that can be done to sway voters anymore; the best thing that can be done is remain positive and upbeat so as to increase voter turnout on our side.

The GOP is doing what it does best -- cheating like fucking crazy. How many Kerry voter will be erased by e-voting? How many Bush votes will magically appear? How many Democratic registrations have been purged? How many Kerry voters won't make it to the polls because some repug moved the pollingstation, or told them it's been moved? How many blacks have been illegally disenfranchised?

I know we'll win if it's a fair election, but that's big "if."
