Is this the NAIL in Bush's coffin? |
|
What do you say? Will this missing explosives story finish him off?
How's it playing, for those of us who can't see the news right now?

You betcha!
It is bad news for Bush. His only thing...I mean his one and only thing that he runs on is security. Now that he has flubbed that up big time, he is screwed.

31. Can you say: "October Surprise"? |
|
This October Surprise has come to bite Bush-boy in the ass.
It'll be interesting to see if slimeball Bush-apologists such as Brokaw and Jennings try to spin this story away this evening on their "news" programs.
Bush hasn't Protected anyone but himself

It sure seems to take a lot of nails to keep his coffin shut. I think that this story has the potential to do some damage to Bush, depending on how the media spins it, but I think DUers who think it's going to finish Bush off completely are being a bit naive and/or too hopeful. In a race as close as this it has the potential to be the tipping factor, but calling it a nail in the coffin is a bit much I think.

3. I'm cynical, but I think |
|
shrub could murder a hundred children and he would still have support of the prolife, wealthy, war-mongers, idiots, and low tax nuts. I don't think this story will change anything. All the other horror stories, and his hideous record, did nothing to bring him down. About half the voters want him, and the Congress, most States, media, Supreme Court, and most corporations want him in power.

8. See, this would be the same thing if it had happened in July |
|
But each one of those "horror stories" did give Bush a dip in the polls -- except he always came back later to the steady slow declining trajectory he's been on since 9/11. The "dips", however, lasted anywhere from a week to a month or more. This "dip" won't have worn off by Nov 2nd -- and also, I think that this close to an election, all news like this is magnified simply because people are paying more attention than is the case usually.

That is exactly my opinion. The people who support him are going to support him no matter what. That percentage that he is at will never turn on him. Never. They would follow him over a cliff.

But they're Iraqi children, so they don't count with the wingnut "Christians" who worship a "culture of life" as long as it's white fundy embryo life.

The voters who decide these elections are wishy-washy. They'll bounce back and forth all week before they finally decide on the challenger.
And I expect the same attitude to be reflected on DU: "Yay!" "Oh NO!!" "Rejoice!" "Holy Crap!" "We're winning early voting!" "We're all gonna die!!!!'
And so on, if the past is any indicator of DU behaviour...

are casting this as a HUGE problem.
Think about it: - there were (supposedly) extensive teams who were supposed to search and destroy WMDs. Why didn't they get this stuff in the process? - IAEA knew where the shit was located (since 1991), 30 miles from Baghdad.
Shrub is toast!

We knew where these dumps were upon moving into Iraq; they should have had top priority. The looting and lawlessness that was allowed to happen right away caused the Iraqi people to take a different look at our "liberating" them.

18. If we didn't go into Iraq to secure its weaponry, then WHAT WAS THE POINT? |
|
And since there clearly were no WMDs to be concerned about, why wasn't this taken care of? How did our strategists not realize that this could be a liability? It leaves us with only two conclusions.
1) The leadership is incompetant and must be replaced.
2) The leadership is willfully dangerous and must be replaced.

23. Nothing is going to "finish him off" |
|
Sorry to pour cold water on your enthusiasm, but in any rational universe, Bush would have been finished off months ago. Since that hasn't happened yet, it follows that we are not in a rational universe and therefore nothing is going to do it. There's no "magic bullet," folks. Bush has somehow gathered an irreducible core of about 45% of the people who will back him no matter what, folks. God knows why, but it's there and it ain't going away.
We can't count on the press to do our job for us or Kerry's job for him. We just have to keep on fighting, slogging away, state by state, voter by voter. Nobody's going to win this but us.

33. I agree. In 1974 Nixon had to resign ONLY because of the...... |
|
infamous "smoking gun" tape and because Congress was getting ready to impeach his ass. TIME magazine and many newspapers called for his resignation. I vividly remember that era. Bush took lessons from Nixon, I'm sure. The ONLY way to get rid of him, short of defeating him, would be for him to admit that he had molested somebody's daughter the previous night and it was all on video tape.

*BEFORE* the invasion, and when U.S. troops went in, the IAEA seals were absent, so, uh, they didn't bother glancing behind door #3.
I still think this backfires on them, as Shrub was the one who'd called off the inspectors--before the invasion.
