I don't think Bush has a chance here. Now the governorship, that is in play, I fear.

17. Washington going Kerry |
|
I live up in the San Juan Islands in the NW corner of Washington state. ( 10 miles as the crow flies from Victoria BC and the Canadian border) I have NEVER seen an election that has energized the local citizenship as this one has. My personal tabulation shows a bumper sticker/yard sign ratio of easily 4 to 1 Kerry over Bush. Western Washington will neutralize and overcome the right-wing wackos from the eastern side of the state, as we always do. I personally encouraged 3 people to register to vote this year and they are going Kerry all the way!

Thank you newyawker99 and flamingyouth. I'm a little nervous about posting because this is a totally new thing for me but....... I've never been motivated like I am now. I've been lurking here for a while. This place (DU) is addicting and it never sleeps! We rock, I can't stay away. I've never experienced a site that has such up-to-the minute breaking news, it's where I go to first for my news "fix". I'm a (female) deckhand on Washington State Ferries and I encounter thousands of people every day. I'm getting a really GOOD feeling here in this neck of the woods. ( Kerry/Edwards signs everywhere!) For the first time ever, I've put two bumper stickers on my pretty little Ford Ranger: "What were you doing on 9/11?" (picture of "Smirk" looking clueless reading "My Pet Goat" and the "W" with the red circle/slash overlay. I don't worry about getting "keyed" here in this county, but I might be concerned if I parked my truck at a WAL-MART (yuk) east of the mountains! Interestingly, on a trip up Highway 20 over the North Cascades to do some fall foliage viewing and trout fishing,(catch and release) I was AMAZED at the Kerry signage in rural Washington. It was EVERYWHERE. The people (Union IBU crew)I work with are all equally motivated and we bought the XM Radio subscription to monitor this election while we are on the boat and keep us "clued in" to the latest developments. Channel 167, baby! I really don't know what I will do if "W-Puke wins. I may have to just check out and turn the radio off.......for years. Yes, there's a smaller private ferry (Victoria Clipper) that has a "Flu Special" ad going right now, but it's still about a $100 bucks or more , I think. It runs from Seattle to Victoria, BC and there's a walk-in clinic right near the dock in Victoria where a flu shot costs $30. Bush keeping America "safe", yeah right.

4. The "Hawaii is in play" thing is a stupid stunt |
|
to try to strike fear into the hearts of people like us. We should take it about as seriously as a report that Utah is going to go Democratic.

This Hawaii nonsense was almost certainly cooked up in Karl Rove's office. It reminds me of the "California is in play!" crap we heard four years ago. In case you've forgotten, California went for Gore by well over a million votes.

Next they'll say Bush is going to win Mass.
Kerry will win Hawaii by 15-20 points.

There is NO, repeat NO Bush presence in Washington state. Bush signs are all but non-existent, I've seen maybe three bumper-stickers this week (hundreds for Kerry) and even the local Republicans are trotting out new ads taking Bush's inane face out of their spots, sometimes at great expense. There's a palpable worry among the GOP here that the Reds are going to lose BIG-TIME here all up and down the board. I don't know about Hawaii, but any map showing Washington as in play is propaganda, pure and simple.

guy's on c-span had kerry up this morning in ev's. but the other pages have bush up. I just does not make any sense how these polls can be bouncing all over the place like this. it seems like the polls were pretty steady in 2000, so why are they so screwed now, and is this bad for kerry.

9. A mantra, to be chanted: |
|
Hawaii is not in play. The pollsters are clueless. Washington is firmly in the Kerry column. The pollsters have their heads up their asses. New Jersey is dark blue. The pollsters don't know what they're talking about.
Now sit in the lotus position and repeat this a couple of dozen times. You'll feel much better afterward.

13. why does everyone keep saying Hi is not in play? |
|
The poll number was small (only 600 sampled), but I can't find info. in the weighting. Also, the poll indicated over 30% of the self-identified HI dems plan to vote for Bush this year! I can't believe it but if those numbers aren't outright lies then there is something seriously wrong here.

And monkeys tend to fly out of my ass on Wednesdays.
Bush's own internal polls show him in deep doo-doo. The Korporate Media's excessive flouting of these bullshit polls-- by organizations of ill or no repute-- are a panic move.

14. HI hysteria is based on one really, really bad poll. |
|
Honolulu Advertiser (Ward Research): October 13-18, 2004. 600 voters, MoE +/- 4%. Bush: 43% Kerry: 43% Undecided (WTF is this?): 12% Other: 2%
But here's where it's really fucked.
Party Affiliation: Bush voters: 42% Republican, 31% Democratic, 24% Independent. Kerry voters: 74% Democratic, 20% Independent, 5% Republican.
Multiply out the numbers, and of the 86% of respondents who chose a candidate, you have 271 Democrats, 121 Republicans, and 114 independents: a pretty big Democratic representation.
And yet, 80 of those Democrats are voting for Bush?

23. HI may or may not be in play |
|
Kerry'll very likely win it, but by a smaller margin than Gore.
WA isn't in play. It never really was either. The Left Coast is fine this time. Nader has little presence in either states. There's little to worry about them.
The real concern is Iowa, Wisconsin, New Mexico, Ohio, and Florida....and to a lesser extent Minnesota.
