good health of "states rights" and "conservative" Chief Justice William H. Rehnquist. After all, twas I who reported negatively upon Rehnquist's legal opinions, his legal theories, and his behavior in his personal life as one of racial discrimination, ethnic discrimination, and religious discrimination.
As Rehnquist's history indicates, I've always known he was (and remains) unfit for the federal bench, particularly as our Chief Justice of our country's highest court . . .
But. Here, I am. In a rather irrational situation, cheering for the Chief Justice's good health!
How strange. How utterly strange. It doesn't *feel* well. And I don't *wear* it well.

"I believe that it points up the fact that we
need common sense judges who understand
that our rights were derived from God. Those
are the kind of judges I intend to put on the bench."
- GWBush, June 27, 2002, explaining his litmus
test for federal judicial nominees.
"Would appoint strict constructionists who would
interpret the law, not legislate from the bench."

Overview’ April 2, 2000
"I’ll put competent judges on the bench, people
who will strictly interpret the Constitution and will
not use the bench to write social policy. I believe
that the judges ought not to take the place of the
legislative branch of government, that they’re
appointed for life and that they ought to look at
the Constitution as sacred. I don’t believe in liberal,
activist judges. I believe in strict constructionists.
And those are the kind of judges I will appoint."
- GWBush, debating w/ Al Gore, presidential
debate, Boston Massachusetts, October 3, 2000.
"President Bush said he was 'troubled' by gay people
getting married in San Francisco. He said on important
issues like this the people should make the decision, not
judges. Unless of course we're choosing a president, then
he prefers judges." — Jay Leno
