Presidential primary prompting voter registration
Associated Press

TUCSON - Election officials are attributing part of a surge in Pima County's Democratic voter rolls to interest in next month's presidential primary.

The roster of the county's Democrats, now at more than 155,000, has grown by 4,400 since September.

That includes 531 Republicans and 1,290 independents who switched parties over the last five months.

Only registered Democrats can cast a ballot in Arizona's Feb. 3 Democratic primary.
