Poll: Dean and Clark gaining in California
UP TO 4 DEMOS EXPECTED TO LAST UNTIL PRIMARY
By Laura Kurtzman
Mercury News

Six weeks before the California primary, Howard Dean comfortably leads the field of Democrats seeking the presidential nomination in the state, although a quarter of likely voters have not made up their minds, according to a poll released today by the Public Policy Institute of California.

The former Vermont governor's support stands at 31 percent, followed by retired Gen. Wesley Clark at 14 percent. The seven other candidates registered in single digits among the 420 likely Democratic voters polled on their preferences.

Dean rose 10 points and Clark 11 points from the previous PPIC poll, taken in September and before Clark officially entered the race.

Dean's strength in California is at odds with polls in Iowa and New Hampshire that show his lead eroding after weeks of attacks by rivals and elements of the Democratic Party establishment. Voting for delegates begins Monday with the Iowa caucuses, followed by the New Hampshire primary Jan. 27.

2. Excellent news! Dean up 31-14
Of course it's very early, but 31 is great. We are working hard in California for Dean, and will need to work hard and not be complacent about ANY Dem winning California this year.
