I have a suggestion about what happened here this afternoon
Edited on Mon Oct-25-04 09:49 PM by AnnInLa
The discovery by Adamocrat of the emails and attachments on georgewbush.org will not change this election, but isn't keeping it alive worth the embarrassment to the GOPers?? Wonkette was the only one who picked it up, because of a tip (ahem). The major media outlets probably won't pick it up, but the political bloggers will, now that Wonkette has it.

Can someone write up what happened here this afternoon, what we found, the shut-out, our observations? Send the write up, along with the DU thread, and Pimpbot's mirror site and a pasted copy of Wonkette to:

Kos
Josh Marshall
Oliver Willis
Buzz Flash
Raw Story
AAR
Mother Jones

And all the others that I can't think of right now. Wouldn't it be great if the bloggers kept this alive, and freaked out the freepers? Can someone write it up?

A few people here saved the attachments, and we could offer those to the above sites. I would write it up, but us math teachers don't speak no good english.

Call me and let me know what your thoughts are. I have some good ideas but I really need to know what Rove is thinking. Call me and let me know what you think. Let's not get over confident. Let's go for the jugular right away. I followed the talking heads the last few days and not one Dem or lib media person brought up Firefighters for Kerry or even homeland security. I hope they were happy with Wed nite and the Endorsement. It is having a hugh impact with IAFF. I'm getting a lot of hate mail which is lways a good sign you're getting to them. My members are thrilled but the rest of the national labor movement is furious with me although none of them have had the guts to call me directly. They have been complaining through 2nd parties.

It's hilarious that none of these people seems aware that one of the recipients on any one of these emails is an address at georgewbush.org. Seems someone would have noticed it along the way. And it's incredibly hilarious that georgewbush.org set up their server to catch all the misaddressed mail ending in georgewbush.org.

54. Walt or anyone else can you make sense of THIS??
Edited on Tue Oct-26-04 11:51 AM by Carni
In a nutshell the first email on the dead mail site is From:

"Randa Fahmy Hudome "

Randa Fahmy Hudome is the head of a two person PR firm in DC.

The firm has been hired by Libya (fairly recently)

She used to be Spence Abraham's undersecretary at the energy dept

The name she mentions in the email that should not be used for "reasons they discused" is Kamal Nawash

He was tied to the below individual but apparently was also running for a state senate seat in Virginia

"It began on Aug. 16, when British authorities at London's Heathrow Airport discovered Alamoudi with $340,000 in sequentially numbered $100 bills as he attempted to fly to Syria. British officials say Alamoudi admitted he had received the money from the Libyan government ."

"As Insight goes to press Alamoudi is in an Alexandria, Va., jail on federal charges relating to aiding and abetting terrorism, illegally funding U.S. pressure groups with laundered money from Libya and Saudi Arabia, and financing terrorists in Syria and inside the United States. Kamal Nawash, calling himself an Alamoudi lawyer, claimed the charges are politically motivated. He did not address the individual allegations."

I have all the supporting links if anyone wants them--is this significant of anything?

I cannot find a jkarim@georgewbush.com on the net so whoever they were sending the email to at the bush campaign remains unidentified!

For those of you who missed it, it's pretty simple:

"OCTOBER, 2004: Recently, we at GeorgeWBush.org happened to notice that our mail server had a default "catch-all" mailbox, which for the past several months had been quietly gathering any and all e-mails addressed to @georgewbush.org. We felt the need to share."

People have been sending stuff meant for people at GeorgeWBush.com to the .org domain...

and THEY'RE REAL. PEOPLE HAVE CALLED THE CONTACT INFO AND THEY WORK.

referred to internal, confidential (supposedly) memos regarding the internal workings of the GOP campaign. They even emailed a spreadsheet with a bunch of Social Security numbers, a memo from Jeb's office trashing another worker, more stuff...you'll just have to read the thread...people saved the attachments, someone mirrored the site, then the site went down. Now, it's back up with more info. still confused? Just read the thread

44. Possible link of 527s to RNC headquarters
I'm not sure these emails actually have enough info but they look like they could be coming from 527s indicating they are getting direction from the RNC.

Also, I believe possible evidence that government workers are working on the Republican campaign - not so sure it can be shown they are on the clock

Definite email about a manufacture of a letter from a friend of a small business owner being hurt by the actions of the Sinclair boycott. I think that's the strongest thing in there.Someone who has access to Lexis-Nexis could do a search and see if such a letter was ever published in a newspaper

21. A killer idea! Should we? Could we? Man check this out!
Ok, if we go through the emails, we have a LOT of emails from people who have addresses at georgewbush.com as well as their field reps. This means we have emails and names from people at all levels of the campaign.

What if...just speculating here...we...

Spoofed a couple emails FROM the bigwigs at georgewbush.com TO the field reps (you know--just for kicks) giving them some strange instructions. We could then turn around and send some spoofed emails TO people in the campaign FROM the field reps reporting really strange things (such as knocking on 780 doors in five days in a Republican neighborhood and not finding a single Bush supporter among Republican homes). Or -- I don't know -- saying that local Republican poll watchers that had signed up are now all bailing out....other thoughts? This could (theoretically) be fun!

My thoughts are we need to put together a plan of attack for several areas of the campaign, including ground game(bus tours and appreances in targeted states) talking head appearances by steve, and targeted calls by steve to other potential firefighter union endorsements like pittsburgh, philly, dayton, cinny, etc. Plus opeds from steve to papers in targeted states on why the nyc firefighters endorsed potus. We need to get on this, time is ticking.

NYC Firefighters Endorse Bush Reelection
By Bobby Eberle
Talon News
September 2, 2004

ELMWOOD, NY (Talon News) -- Breaking with precedent set by larger firefighter's unions, the Uniformed Firefighters Association of Greater New York, representing the city's 8,600 firefighters, endorsed President George W. Bush for reelection Wednesday evening.

The president and Laura Bush arrived to shouts of "Four More Years" delivered by firefighters and a friendly neighborhood crowd who pressed against barricades to get a glimpse of the president and first lady.

The endorsement was given by Steve Cassidy, president of the association, with President Bush at his side at the Charities of America hall in Elmhurst, NY

Tears were evident in the president's eyes as he said, "It really means a lot to me because the truth of the matter is the inspiration I receive from the firefighters is something I'll never forget."

31. This was what I was thinking of...
By picking up the endorsement of the union that represents New York's uniformed firefighters, including 8,600 who are currently employed, Mr. Bush hoped to blunt the effect of other firefighter unions endorsing Mr. Kerry. The Massachusetts Democrat has been endorsed by the International Association of Firefighters, as well as a union representing New York's 2,900 fire captains, lieutenants and other officers.

39. Just sent this to Countdown with KOlbermann (KOlbermann@MSNBC.com):
Hi Keith and Countdown Crew,

Thanks for one of the best news shows on the air. You are true professionals.

Have you heard about the GeorgeWBush.org "Dead Letter Office?" Seems that the parody site GeorgeWBush.org recently "happened to notice that our mail server had a default 'catch-all' mailbox, which for the past several months had been quietly gathering any and all e-mails addressed to @georgewbush.org. We felt the need to share." Here's the address:

http://www.georgewbush.org/deadletteroffice/

Apparently these emails - sent by hapless campaign staffers who accidentally used .org instead of .com - include suggestions of campaign fraud, dirty tricks, GOP staffers doing campaign work on the government dime, and more. Please investigate this!!

Best,

(CW)

This endorsement is based on the following:

1. The War on Terrorism: We support the Campaign against al Qaida and the other Jihadist Terrorist groups, including Hizbollah, and consider this war as a historic confrontation with an evil ideology which must be uprooted and denounced worldwide. The War on Terrorism is not only about arresting and killing Terrorists, but is also about creating changes in the region producing this ideology of mass death. We support the Bush doctrine which considers any regime which protects the Terrorists and support them as a Terror regime which should be removed.

2. The War in Iraq: We thank the US Congress for authorizing this campaign, and we thank President Bush for taking the risk of conflict so that more than 24 million Iraqis are now freed from one of the most genocidal dictators in modern History. The removal of Saddam Hussein is a central part of the War against Terrorism. We denounce those who opposed the liberation of Iraq as indirect associates of the mass murderer. We support the democratic process in Iraq and feel that the re-election of President Bush would bring hope to the Iraqi democratic forces and ensure international support to the emergence of Iraqi democracy

3. Democracy and Human Rights: We thank President Bush for declaring a campaign to spread Democracy and freedom in the Broader Middle East. We as Americans from Middle Eastern and North African descent reject the notion that our mother societies do not deserve democracy. We praise the President's agenda of supporting Human Rights, especially the rights of Women, youth and minorities in the Middle East. We feel that with President Bush's policies and principles we will be able to assist our mother civil societies in Iran, Saudi Arabia, Algeria and elsewhere to move towards Democracy.

4. Syria's occupation of Lebanon: We thank the President for signing the Syria Accountability Act of 2003 and for instructing our US delegation for introducing, and passing the UNSCR 1559 calling for the end of Syrian occupation of Lebanon. Lebanese-Americans are particularly appreciative of these initiatives and resents the previous policies of allowing Syria to crush the Lebanese people.

5. Syria's reforms: We thank the President for pressing Syria to end its alliance with Terrorism, including with Hezbollah, the foreign Fighters in Iraq and Hamas and Islamic Jihad. And also for pressuring the Baathist regime in Syria to conduct democratic reforms.

6. Sudan and Mauritania: We thank the President and his Secretary of State Colin Powell for declaring the crisis in Darfur as a Genocide and for extending help to the people of Southern Sudan, who must enjoy their rights as Black Africans. We thank the President who repetitively called for an end to Slavery in Sudan and Mauritania. The North African Americans, urge their brothers and sisters of the African American community to vote for President Bush as a way to free more slaves in Africa and defend our common African heritage from oppression.

7. Minorities: We thank the President for insisting on the rights of minorities, particularly the endangered ones such as the ChaldoAssyrians in Iraq and Syria and the Copts in Egypt. We believe that under a Bush second term, more autonomy would be extended to these minorities so that they would survive the threat of Terror and discrimination.

8. Libya: We thank and congratulate the President for succeeding in the process of disarming the Libyan regime of Muaamar Qadhafi and feel that a second term of the Bush Presidency will press the Libyan regime to reform, and release the political prisoners.

9. Afghanistan: We praise the President for his leadership in removing the Taliban and helping in establishing a democratic Government in Afghanistan

10. Israel-Palestine Conflict: We value President's Bush call for a two states solution with a secure Israel and a Democratic Palestinian state living side by side.

10. Homeland Security: We thank the President for introducing and Congress for passing the Patriot Act. We stand by the President in his policies of developing counter Terrorism and furthering diversity, and tolerance. We praise President Bush for his stand during and since the barbaric attacks of September 11. We feel he expressed not only the sentiments of the majority of Americans but also the majority of Middle East Americans. †

Based on these 10 principles of policy, we hereby call on more than 5 million Americans from Middle East and North African descent to vote for George W Bush as President of the United States for four more years

45. The "MEANC"
It looks to me as if this so-called organization was made up on the spot. Their contact, Dr. Walid Phares, has a website that is pretty up to date and it mentions the MEANC not at all.

47. Wonder if it could be a
"poisoning the well" attempt. The MEANC emails were sent after the dead letter site went up.

48. Look at this from a Washington Times *Reporter*
What a bunch of bullshit...is he a "reporter" or a bush campaign operative sending hints and threats?

yesterday I called over to the campaign asking for your platform statement on tort reform. I've not heard back. Does this mean you don't have a specific platform? If not, that will make a good point in my story and one that pro-tort reform republicans will have fun commenting on. If you do have it, send it along or call me.

Would you have rather him said "Mr. Rodriguez is wiping crack."?

With respect to the Spokane media market, Mr. Rodriguez is smoking crack.

21 WASHINGTON (11 EVs):

Play It Again, Sam
John Kerry named Sam Rodriguez his new WA state dir. Rodriguez said the Dem ticket is "a perfect match" for the "trade-dependent state, despite" GOP criticism of John Edwards' "protectionist views." Rodriguez said he's "guardedly optimistic" that Kerry and Edwards will carry WA's 11 EVs, noting that "the high caliber" of Sen. Patty Murray's (D) reelection campaign "will lift all Democratic candidates." Rodriguez said the Spokane media market "is a key target"; the region "narrowly went for" Pres. Clinton, but Pres. Bush "trounced" Al Gore in 2000. Rodriguez: "We feel good about breaking even or winning there this time" (Ammons, AP, 7/10).

53. This should be used to destroy the morale of every one of the stupid
idiots who sent email to the .org site. The Bush campaign has been taking many hits, and this will be just one more. But fortunately, for quite a number of them, this is going to be personal. Some of them will lose their jobs, and some of them will just spend the rest of the campaign paranoid. We like this. It helps us.

How do we ensure that the news of this stupidity gets into the "right" hands?
