Could NH end up being Clark vs. Kerry?
The polls in Iowa have shown a 3-4 way deadlock between Dean, Gephardt, Kerry, and Edwards, making Iowa really unpredictable. If Dean gets blown out with a HUGE upset (not just losing narrowly to Gephardt, but a 3rd place finsh) it would have a catastrophic fallout in NH for Dean and many of his supporters would leave in droves, who would then be aggessively courted by Clark and Kerry as they duke it out and suck up every last Dean supporter.

I actually think Clark has a great chance in New Hampshire.

5. Just about everything here is speculation...
if it weren't, we'd have nothing to post until next November.

6. I think it's unlikely to happen....
Dean has dropped, but he's now down to his strong, base supporters. Yes, a particularly bad showing in Iowa by Dean will change some of them, but probably not enough to ove him into 3rd in NH.

That being said, the race is tightening so much in Iowa AND NH, that anything is possible. The fact is, a lot of us will be surprised in the next few weeks. There's no "inevitability" to any of the candidates. The only sure thing is there are no sure things.

13. So true and well put
If I had predicted Kerry edging out Dean just a week ago, would everyone have laughed at me?

Fact of the matter is, if we learn anything from Kerry's jump it should be:

1.) It ain't over until the fat lady sings

2.) No candidate is "unelectable"

3.) No candidate is a sure thing

4.) Keep working for your guy... HARD! Dig, dig deep, and when the well is dry, roll up your sleeves. Every dark horse seems to be having their day.

8. I'm not sure who becomes the Kerry alternative in NH.
From my standpoint, it doesn't matter.

14. Unlikely, I think
Because a good showing in IA by Kerry would hurt Clark more than Dean--even if Dean comes 3rd, I think.

As a Clark supporter, I'm cheering for: Gep (no money) - Dean (high expectations) - Kerry - Edwards

15. With all the fur flying I'd say there could be 4-5 players in NH
Specifically, Edwards (my choice), Kerry, Dean, Clark and perhsps Gephardt.

If Dean is unexpectedly low in Iowa and Kerry, Edwards and Gephardt all do well, I can see Dean's lead fizzleing quickly. If Clark "issues" continue and get some legs, his little surge could fizzle as well. A Gephardt win in Iowa could get him some leverage but I'll admit its a longshot.

And, of course, I think Edwards could rocket with a win or near win in Iowa.

For some reason I can't see Lieberman getting better releted to the ongoing events but worse but I thnk thats just gut feeling on my part.
