We will never see our economy or our country as good as the Clinton years.
Although he is despised and ridiculed by the right-wingers, Bill Clinton brought the best economy we have ever experienced. He also kept Saddam under control with the no-fly zones, even though many in his own Party disagreed with him, and he was doing his best to get Osama bin Laden. He had battleships off the shore of Pakistan that was sending missles into Afghanistan. He went into Serbia to protect the Muslim minorities and overthrew the dictator Milosevic without one war casualty. Our country was prosperous and at peace. George W Bush could try for 100 years and he could never equal the record of Bill Clinton. :)

1. Hard to say how long it will take historians
to realize that Clinton was one of the two greatest Presidents of the 20th Century in terms of getting the job done. And he had to do it in much less friendly atmosphere that Roosevelt. Although FDR certainly had his unplacable haters in the press and a hostile Senate and Supreme Court.

2. And you forgot
Edited on Mon Oct-25-04 11:59 PM by robg
No you didn't forget ... that's what I get for skimming ... but here's what I wrote.

He and Wes Clark put the brakes on genocide without the loss of a single American serviceman.

And all this while blowing a really mean saxophone.

And that, lurking freepers, is why Bill Clinton will forever be known as The Big Dog.

BTW, you lurking moralist prigs, I found the blue dress a whole lot easier to explain to my kids than the Abu Ghraib photos. "Is this what you did when you worked for the Army, Daddy?" The blue dress was a stain on Clinton's honor. Abuy Ghraib is the stain on this nation's honor. Get over yourselves, hypocrites. Here's a dollar ... buy a life.

3. I almost always agree with you, my friend, but not here...

Remember how thoroughly Reagan and GW Bush Sr fucked up the economy? In 1992 it was in tatters. After 8 years of Reagan throwing money at the military, and 4 years of Bush cramming billions of dollars contractor buddies throats, America revolted. Bill Clinton was elected and the adults took charge of the asylum. Eight years later, the budget was balanced, the economy was humming, and we were paying down the national debt. Then pResident Bush was selected....Now things are really shitty again.

on edit: I only mean we, as America, have a chance to regain our class. Yes, it will be very hard, but I have to believe its at least possible.

Can Kerry do it as quickly as Clinton? Hell no. He'll likely be dealing with a rethug congress, an enormous deficit and an on-going nightmare in Iraq and at home. However, with time, a little luck, and a talented administration (Wes Clark/Howard Dean/Dennis Kucinich) he has the POTENTIAL to give us back our country.

Good luck, senator.

4. Bill Clinton was the best President in my lifetime.
His accomplishments are incredible and when I hear red-necks talk about his little affair - well, their chances of getting anywhere in their jobs become limited - knowing that they are narrow thinkers I lose respect for them. Let the small-minded get their jollies talking about penises, history will paint a different picture - let the stupid red-necks call it revisionist history. Whatever, the creme always floats to the top eventually...

6. When Clinton took office, the Dow was at @ 3000.
Edited on Tue Oct-26-04 12:09 AM by NinetySix
Now I'm not saying that the Dow is the best, only, or most indicative sign of a good economy, but it's worth noting that even after the dot.com bubble burst and the country suffered the unthinkable disaster of September 11, 2001, the Dow still hovers just below 10,000, right about where it was just as Clinton was leaving office. The core fact remains that Clinton essentially TRIPLED the value of the Dow! Imagine if Bush had come in and the Dow had jumped from 10,000 to 30,000! Perhaps he dreams of this between his dreams of being beloved the world over.

7. Things were far better under Clinton than they are under Bush*
but I believe in America, I believe in our future. Better days are ahead and, with plenty of hard work, they will be better than the Clinton years.

8. What TRULY breaks my heart...
Is if the right wing had not done what they did from 1994-2000, who knows where this country would be? They stopped so many good judges from being sworn in. They locked up Clinton's budgets. They torpedoed health care reform. I mean, imagine if Clinton had had both houses the whole time? It would be Fucking UTOPIA and Gore would be President right now. 9/11 may never had happened and we would still be in that golden age. It is almost as heartbreaking to me the way they stifled Clinton as when they murdered JFK.

9. We were on the brink of really promising future
but I think that every month that Bush is in office, does a year or two of damage. By the time we repair it, we'll be far behind. The diplomatic damage even longer than that.

10. No my friend. The best is yet to come
The best is yet to come, and won't that be fine
You think you've seen the sun, but you ain't seen it shine...

Wait till we have universal health care.

Wait till we close down corporate piratism.

Wait till we have a living wage.

Wait till we have tax equality.

Wait till women earn an equal dollar.

Yes, the best is yet to come. You think you've flown before, but you ain't left the ground...

:)

12. do you mean in our lifetimes?
I figure I have another 20 or 30 years.

I think you might be right.

If you mean never, like "forever," I disagree.

The Clinton Era was a once-in-a-lifetime golden age.

And all that despite the 24X7 RW and media attempts to bring him down. Simply amazing.
