And they are spinning Lockhart's statement. Read the last line. The Kerry campaign needs to get them that quote from the anonymous Pentagon official.

Edited on Tue Oct-26-04 01:15 AM by jezebel
The media is just looking to turn this into poor poor Bushie ATTACKED by Kerry. Next they'll be saying should Kerry apologize?

Fucking CNN will be happy to have the story be "troops secure site one day after liberation". Everybody should just forget we were in there since March.

2. We secured oil fields with special ops
Why not these known IAEA locations. It's inexcusable. And they say they tried to secure locations, give me a list because I've been wanting that special ops list for a very long time now. Where did the special ops people go to find the WMD that they said they "knew where they were".

What a bunch of dumbasses over there at CNN. Does Joe Lockhart have to do their jobs for them?! As Jon Stewart said: LAZY!

they are just going with the spoonfed "one day after liberation" story.

We need to hammer the statement of the Iraqi government and the fact that the US took its sweet time in securing facilities like this while guarding oil fields and the oil ministry.

8. Interesting. The Pentagon says otherwise
http://www.lasvegassun.com/sunbin/stories/w-me/2004/oct/25/102504973.html

By WILLIAM J. KOLE
ASSOCIATED PRESS
VIENNA, Austria (AP)
<snip>
At the Pentagon, an official who monitors developments in Iraq said U.S.-led coalition troops had searched Al-Qaqaa in the immediate aftermath of the March 2003 invasion and confirmed that the explosives, under IAEA seal since 1991, were intact. Thereafter, the site was not secured by U.S. forces, the official said, also speaking on condition of anonymity.
The Iraqis told the nuclear agency the materials were stolen and looted because of a lack of security at governmental installations, Fleming said.
"We do not know what happened to the explosives or when they were looted," she told AP.

11. CNN is being spoonfed straight from the Bush campaign and instead
of investigating, they are just running their spin.
CNN's Suzanne Malveaux and Elise Labott contributed to this report.
Suzanne Malveaux is the reporter with the Bush camp.
"But in the wake of the NBC report, the Bush campaign fired off a statement saying that Kerry's criticism of the president over the missing material has "been proven false before the day is over."

"John Kerry's attacks today were baseless," Bush campaign spokesman Steve Schmidt said. "He said American troops did not secure the explosives, when the explosives were already missing."

Schmidt also said that Kerry "neglects to mention the 400,000 tons of weapons and explosives that are either destroyed or in the process of being destroyed" in Iraq."

See, Bush camp tells them story is false and they say OK.

This is one of the worst crimes I've seen CNN commit.

And I've been watching them do this for quite some time now.

They need to be taken DOWN for this one.

This should be the straw that breaks the camel's back for everybody.

The PENTAGON ITSELF contradicts what they're saying.

9. a Republican
friend has already gleefully called me to rub this in my face. If this is true, I suspect it was the work of evil genius KKKarl Rove.

This has parallels to the rumors of Rove breaking in to his own office--and blaming his opponent. He PURPOSEFULLY put out this story--knowing the Democrats would respond by attacking Bush--then when we do--he leaks out the rest of the story--andthe Republicans look like innocent victims.

I can hardly wait to get rid of this sleazy cabal! But I am sure that Kerry is a few steps ahead of this--he is playing chess not checkers. I bet Kerry has something planned that will turn this around so that it bites KKKarl in the ass!

Go rub that in HIS face...and ask him if he gives a shit about the dead & wounded American men, women & teenagers now and the ones that will be dead or wounded tomorrow,...and the day after that...and the day after that...because BUSH didn't BOTHER to do what he'd been warned PUBLICLY MANY TIMES to do; SECURE Al Qaqaa.

18. It really doesn't matter whether they were there or not...
the fact is, these explosives were documented by the IAEA at a known location and we obviously didn't have a plan to deal with the possibility they could be removed or looted once the invasion began.

No matter how you spin it, the Bush administration was incompetent.

26. well that's great that YOU are but
most Americans still go to that thing called "the American free press" for their information and MOST of them still think it's "liberal".

Nobody is gonna tell them it ain't liberal no more except us.

Just today I was downtown Santa Monica talking to some wonderful ladies who were handing out Kerry/Edwards literature and such, and a 77 year old guy walked up and started spouting about how he's never seen anything so awful in his 77 years as this guy Bush. Then we got to talking poll numbers and everybody was saying like "how can so many people still support Bush?" and I said "it's the media!"

The 77 year old fellow said "yeah, but the media's liberal, look at those guys like Rather and Brokaw ...."

I did my best to set him straight. He seemed amazed. He asked me if I was joking, he seemed shocked that I would be deadly serious about this. And he HATES Bush, had on Kerry pins, was complaining bitterly about Bush.

I gave him a few examples for him to digest.

It's sad. Most people have NO IDEA about the media.

We at DU are way way way ahead of the curve. We were on Iraq, we are on most things.

The MOST important thing for us to do in the next four years is to completely change the media. Make it, force it, to tell the truth.

Jon Stewart is the ONLY person on the planet doing this in public so far. Thank God for Jon Stewart, he's the pebble that can start the avalanche. Hopefully.

28. I hope that since CNN picked this up
we won't spend the next few days seeing the MSM go back and forth over whose right or wrong. That will in effect bury the sting of the story and Rove will have won this battle.

Also the repugs will also no doubt argue that if insurgents were able to loot all of these munitions they could have just as easily made off with WMD.

35. Nope.
Coz BOTH of bush's own hand-picked Republican weapons experts with the ISG say Iraq didn't have any 'WMD' since 1991, and Iraq DID NOT HAVE THE ABILITY to produce, purchase, or possess 'WMD' since 1994.

Then again, most rethugs think we already found 'WMD' in Iraq (and Iraq did 911, and the world supported the invasion). Rightwingnuts are so incredibly ignorant.

BUSH KICKED OUT WEAPONS INSPECTORS SO THAT SO CALLED WEAPONS WOULD NOT FALL INTO THE WRONG HANDS.... all this proves is that CONTAINMENT AND INSPECTIONS WERE SUPERIOR TO WAR!

"Prior to the Iraq war, the high-grade explosives at Al Qaqaa had been under the control of IAEA inspectors because the material could be used as a component in a nuclear weapon, IAEA spokeswoman Melissa Fleming said. IAEA and other U.N. inspectors left the countryb](BECAUSE BUSH KICKED THEIR ASS OUT) ... in March 2003 before the fighting began on March 19."
