Just got an email from Coach Dean Smith cheering for John Edwards!

Dear XXXXXX

Over the years I've been fortunate enough to be associated with some terrific teams. And now, I'm part of another winning team -- the John Edwards for President team.

Why do I Support John Edwards? As the Coach of the Tar Heels, I had the privilege to get to know Senator Edwards one-on-one. I have seen all he has accomplished for North Carolina, and I watched as he has built a winning national campaign while never losing touch with his down-home beginnings.

John Edwards has those special "things" that set winning teams apart: talent, commitment and discipline.

I have been listening to John Edwards. I believe he has the vision and substantive ideas we desperately need. His character and work ethic are inspiring. And he's definitely in the game to WIN.

And while the other candidates trash talk each other, Senator Edwards keeps his eye on the ball, focused on his goal. Especially over the last few months, his optimism and faith in this country has been inspiring.

Join Me on The Team! Join me in supporting John Edwards. I believe so strongly in John Edwards that I have contributed to his campaign - YOU SHOULD TOO.

Whatever amount you can afford to give will be gratefully accepted. If you can do $250, terrific, but even a donation of $25 makes a difference. Click here to contribute today:<"https://secure.ga3.org/03/EdwardsForPresident/ne1a-7sY1xaeI>

Dean Smith... inventor of the 4 corners offense. The man who single-handedly forced the shot clock into college basketball.

Former University of Virginia basketball coach Terry Holland had a dog named "Dean Smith."

I remember a ACC Tournament Final between UNC and Virginia with a halftime score of 7 to 2.

5. Poor Terry...that dog always DID get the best of him!
Not to mention that Dean won another one (1993) after the shot clock was put in!:D

Sorry, mods...last thing we need today is a COLLEGE SPORTS-RELATED food fight, I know!:eyes:

B-)

8. Who would you expect Coach Weasel, I mean K to support:
The REPUBLICAN. He campaigned for Liddy Dole.

I expect no less from DUKE.

9. Probably Dub...
One of my fondest early 90s sports memories was when Coach K and the Dook team were at the White House in 1992 being honored by Poppy for their second straight championship. Coach K then expressed the wish that "Mr. President, I hope we're back here next year...and I hope YOU'RE back here next year, too!"

Well, what do ya know...the next year, it was a great change all around...Clinton was in the Rose Garden, honoring...yep...Dean Smith and the Heels!:7

13. Have you not heard about Coach Smith vs. the death penalty?
He stood in a room full of people, including prominant politicians, pointed to each of them and said, "You're a murderer, you're a murderer, you're a murderer, and I'm a murderer."

11. Dean's a lot better at getting his team to the Final Four than he is at
winning the big one.

Dean has a agreement with all his former players to act as his pall bearers. He wants them to let him down one last time.
