Turn Out, Turn Out, Turn Out -- Make Your Pledge Here.
We need boots on the ground (and in cars and on the phone). YOU, yes you, can make a difference, if you get just one voter to the polls who wouldn't have gone without your prodding, you've doubled your vote.

If you don't want to be crying on November 3rd, do this TODAY: Call your local Democratic Party headquarters and volunteer. Give up watching that World Series Game, skip that episode of Survivor and put off the yard work and house cleaning until the weekend after the election.

Make your pledge here. How many hours are you going to put in between now and the closing of the polls turning out the vote? (Posting on DU doesn't count.)

HFishbine pledges: 22 hours.

1. I voted absentee...
...I worked both days this past weekend, am working both days this weekend, Tuesday I am spending half of the day as a poll 'monitor' insuring people are able to vote without hassel (I am in Franklin County Ohio so its a big worry) and the other half of the day I'm helping get people to the polls.

5. Well, VOTE!
Make sure it stays overwhelmingly BLUE.

;- )

I believe you can go to Kerry's web site and sign up to call voters in swing states to make sure they get out to vote for our man.

I early voted for Kerry here in Texas. While I harbor no illusions of carrying the state, I hope to make Bush nervous by turning his home state a lovely shade of mauve!

8. A couple of suggestions
Edited on Tue Oct-26-04 08:20 AM by HFishbine
- Can you travel?

Is there a pink state near you? Are you close enought to WI, IA, AR, OH or MO to travel? That's asking a lot, but if your time and circumstances allow, why not?

- Have cheap long distance?

You can get a list of voters to call here: http://www.votercall.org/gotv/ (Begin with "register now" then you'll get instructions by e-mail.)

Thanks for asking. I hope one of these works out for you.

Call ACT, they will have something for you to do from 12:30 in the after noon until the polls close. Iowa, Missouri and Wisconsin could surely use your help.

27. We still need to GOTV
We also want to win the popular vote so we need votes in Blue states. I'm in California and I'm working hard organizing our local GOTV. Although I'm spending this weekend calling swing states.

3. I am already there
4 - 5 hours a day during the week. We are assigning poll workers today. Be there all day on Nov 2. HOWEVER, it is even more important to hurry up and get butts in the booth during early voting. Everyone is talking about 1-2 hour waiting just at the early voting sites. Wait until Nov 2, and many may not vote.

4. Too many hours to count...
I'm organizing the "Ride to the Polls" effort for
the whole county. I've set up a Dispatcher/driver
system to move voters, materials, food, etc.

I don't plan to sleep until 5:30 pm on Nov. 3rd.

..... I couldn't be happier!

6. It doesn't matter....
Edited on Tue Oct-26-04 08:16 AM by magnolia
...if you are a blue state or red state...you need to work as if it's a battleground state. Why? The popular vote matters...every vote counts.

I'm in a red state...Virginia...I have worked all summer. Kerry tables at Farmer's Market and various local festivals. Meetings, letters to the editor, phone calls, etc. Election Day I will work three hours as a poll watcher and three hours as a greeter. My husband will be driving people to polls. Last week we sent notices to all African-American churches in our county and asked the pastor to encourage people to vote and give our number if they need a ride. We've put up the notices around town for everybody.

On edit...I forgot. We've put up hundreds of signs. Our local dem group has put up three 4'x 8' and even a billboard. I have been wearing my Kerry button everywhere I go all summer...my husband his Veterans for Kerry. Our very nice car has had a bumpersticker on it for months.

16. Bleachers
Where is Election Protection sending you? They offered Florida to me, but that is beyond my means. Raleigh was the only NC city they had on their list and Raleigh DUers seemed to think that won't be a problem. So I'm going to be a half-day poll monitor for the Dem party on election day here in Greensboro. The second half of the day I'll be a "flusher" -- knocking on the doors of voters identified as Kerry supporters to make sure they are going to the polls.

You? Where are you going?

I have to find someone to communicate with that can post on my behalf. Hopefully all DUers will be doing GOTV, but there has to be someone. I was going to ask.

28. How about the admins?
Might they be willing to take a call or two from you during the day and post an update on your behalf? I'd offer, but I'll be in the trenches. (Although, PM me if you can't find anybody. You could leave a message on my machine as I'll be stopping by the house for lunch an dinner and could post your reports at those times.)

23. what is the best thing I can do with limited time?
I am a grad student- with a million deadlines coming down on me (of course) this week! I already signed up through my union AFT to phonebank for a couple hours on Saturday. I also NEED to do something election day or I might go insane.

Should I volunteer to drive people to the polls all Tuesday morning?

Or do you more seasoned volunteers think that calling from the John Kerry headquarters will be better? The Kerry website only has calling sign ups- but I really would love to drive people to the polls who can't get there otherwise.

thanks!

24. I'd suggest you call your K/E HQ and ask them those questions.
"What do you need on Nov. 2?" "What can I do in my limited time between now and Election Day?" They'd know best what jobs they have and what volunteers they need. Calling is always good, but if the phone banks are full, they don't need callers. Here in Milwaukee the election day driving shifts are all full up. I'd like to poll-watch on Nov. 2, but I'll go wherever they need me...

Find your local Dem headquarters number in the phone book or online.

My local party is very accomodating of people's schedules. Last night I wasn't even scheduled to phone bank, but I finished some work early, drove down there and they found a spot for me. Call them and tell them your situation. They'll find something productive for you to do around your schedule. But you have to call. Take that step and the rest will fall into place.
