4 Hours in Line to vote in Dekalb County, GA
So says the morning news. A couple of my co-workers said that they waited for three hours yesterday afternoon.

1. Maybe I'm missing something with early voting since we don't in OH
but what is the advantage if you still have to wait in line so long? Do people do early voting if they're going to be away on election day? Of course we have absentee voting in OH for people who meet certain criteria. I hadn't heard of such a thing as early voting til this year. Please fill me in on the advantages.

2. You can imagine how long the wait would be
on election day if people did not stand in line for early voting.

3. Well, there will be A LOT MORE
polling stations on Nov 2. There may not be any lines at all.
(In theory)

8. Some GA counties have had early voting even earlier
For instance, we voted in Cobb county last week.

In 2000, I waited in line for four hours to vote. I remember thinking at the time that one vote couldn't make that much difference, but I stayed in line and voted anyway. Now I know better, of course.

5. The idea is to give all the voters a chance
so no one misses the opportunity to vote.

Also, to get all the votes counted, so no more of that Florida "we need to recount but we canmt do it in the allotted time" bullshit from the SCOTUS.

4. Will there be anyone left to vote on November 2nd?
There will be more polling places open then, so the lines may be much shorter.

However, my state has no early voting.

6. I was expecting this, so we got absentee ballots.

Huge effort to get African-Americans to the polls here.

Looks like it's successful.

We're putting Cynthia McKinney back in Congress next week.

9. I hope Cynthia wins. She was a prophet last time around and
no one paid any attention. Looking back I don't see how people could not vote for her. She spoke up when others remained silent about our so-called CIC.

Second day of early voting finds more long lines

By MIKE MORRIS, CARLOS CAMPOS
Published on: 10/26/04

Long lines were reported again this morning at the first advance-voting location to open.

Advance voting has been touted as a way to avoid long lines at the polls on Election Day. But it was far from convenient for thousands of Georgians who waited up to four hours on Monday to cast a ballot in the general election.

Today's lines could be even longer, if the early turnout in DeKalb County is any indication.

Elizabeth Gorsuch, a receptionist at the DeKalb government annex at 4380 Memorial Drive, said there were "a lot more" voters in line at 8 a.m. today, than on Monday morning. About 200 people were queued to vote at 8 a.m. compared to about 30 on Monday, Gorsuch said.

New arrivals have kept the traffic consistent.
