I am planning to see Senator/Prez-Elect Kerry on Thursday at the Wisconsin Teacher's Convention, so I hadn't planned to go last night, until a co-worker (another teacher) came up to me and said "Let's go!," so I went. I brought a digital camera, but the pics didn't turn out that great. She brought one too, so we'll see how those turned out. We drove about 70 miles to Green Bay, at the Radisson Hotel. It was cold, but not too bad. We got there about 6:30 and got in line (with no tickets). There was a guy in front of us who drove 300 miles (from Minnesota) to see and hear Kerry. He said he tried to bring his repig sister, but that didn't happen. At least he tried. I bought some Kerry/Edwards pins, even though I didn't have enough cash on me (The guy let me write a check!) There were red and blue tickets, which got people in to better spots. Others had white tickets (me & friend from work) and sat in the bleacher seats in back, or behind the crowd with the red and blue tickets. This event had a lot of people there, including the 11 native American tribes from Wisconsin. I saw the local tribe there, which has a large number of students at my school here. They are wonderful people. I am privelaged to work at a school which has a rich and varied culture. It's one thing that drew me to this district. We waited till about 10:00; then we had a big surprise that I wasn't expecting . . . . Jon Bon Jovi. He sand Livin' on a prayer with guitar and accompanying violin. It was a legendary performance, and he spoke powerfully about the importance of this campaign, and voting and volunteering. Wow!!! (That guy is so hot, I can't even begin to tell you!) Then Senator Kerry came to talk. My friend was so excited to see him. It was her first time, and now she's hooked! She canceled a planned & much needed trip to the Bahamas, and will now go to the convention in Madison on Thursday. Kerry was magnificent, and the more he spoke, the more powerful he became. People talk about Edwards' speaking ability, which has to be seen in person to really appreciate, but Kerry absolutely takes my breath away! He talked about the missing weapons, health care, education, Iraq, our soldiers and the way bu$h is using them, he talked about Wisconsin putting JFK over the top to win the presidency, etc. etc. I wish like hell I'd hape brought a video camera, but I will do that when I go to Madison this Thursday. Also, my class is taking a tour of the Capitol tomorrow (10-27-04), which is earlier than I usually take it. I have hopes of the kids seeing someone from the Kerry/Edwards campaign, or maybe the legislature - something hopeully! It should be interesting. Anyone know someone in the Kerry campaign I could contact, soon??? Suggestions anyone???
