The Oregonian printed a letter from Bill Walton today
Yes, Bill Walton the former NBA star and loudly professed liberal Deadhead. I can't find it online yet, so I'll have to type it in. Enjoy!

FORMER BLAZER RALLIES FOR KERRY

I have come to regard teamwork and practical collaboration as cornerstones of success in all facets of life. We must do everything we can to develop these skills in our young people.

Despite its public posturing and promises, the Bush administration has left millions of children behind. President Bush trumpets "No Child Left Behind" as a glorious triumph, but the program is underfunded by $25 billion. Continuing along this path would deeply affect the future for them and for all of us.

John Kerry, however, has asserted his commitment to children by proposing programs that address many of their needs. For example, Kerry's plan to keep after-school programs open until 6 pm would keep young people off the streets during the hours in which they are three times as likely to get into trouble with the law. Offering positive alternatives would reduce gun violence and gang membership, and would put our children on the right track.

Bush has consistently cut funding to after-school programs.

Bill Walton, San Diego

A member of the Baskeball Hall of Fam, Walton was the NBA's Most Valuable Player with the Portland Trail Blazers in 1978.

1. Very cool. People still remember the championship Blazers.
I used to belong to the same gym as Maurice Lucas. Those guys are still big stuff around here.

4. Walton was a very popular Celtic, too....
And considering the other players on the team who had been here longer (Bird, Parish, McHale, DJ, Ainge...) that's no small feat. Boston still loves him...

I likes him as an announce because, agree with him or not, he calls it like he sees it and there is no sucking up. He's got integrity. He will take ANYBODY to task if he feels like they deserve it, and praise anybody in the same manner. Plus, he admits when he's wrong...
