GD2004 version - The Nation's Kids Prefer Bush in a Landslide
http://www.theday.com/eng/web/news/re.aspx?re=F1CA3783-7F09-4747-8716-4A2E83F106A4

"Hartford — The nation's schoolchildren apparently believe President Bush deserves another four years in office.

In a mock election held by the Weekly Reader, a Stamford-based national schoolroom newspaper, Bush handily beat his Democratic challenger, U.S. Sen. John Kerry.

Unofficial election returns released Monday showed the Republican incumbent with 65 percent of the kid vote, to 33.4 percent for Kerry. About 1.6 percent of students voted for candidates from a third party.

“With a few exceptions, George Bush has swept the grades,” said Ira Wolfman, a senior vice president at Weekly Reader. “As the kids got older, the race got much closer, and brought John Kerry some solace.”"

1. So they are only wrong when Democrats win and that's an........
aberration. Isn't Weekly Reader the primary newspaper read by freepers?

2. Nick poll shows Kerry a winner with 100,000 more responses
and they have been correct in the last 4 presidential elections.

I can't believe I'm discussing internals of a kids' poll...;)

3. FFA: Future Freepers of America
I wonder how "Highlights For Children" stands on the election? "Goofus and Gallant" has * and Kerry written all over it.

4. I always preferred Nickelodeon News

"NEW YORK, Oct. 20 /PRNewswire/ -- Senator John Kerry has been declared the winner of Nickelodeon's "Kids' Vote" according to kids nationwide who exercised their voting power in the network's presidential poll held online Oct. 19. Nickelodeon has held a "Kids' Vote" every election year since 1988, and kids have correctly predicted the winner of the general elections for the last four U.S. presidential campaigns.

In this year's vote, Sen. John Kerry received 57% of the vote, and
President George W. Bush received 43%. With the total tally of votes reaching almost 400,000, kids were able to choose their candidate and vote online on http://www.nick.com on Oct. 19. In 2000, Bush was predicted the winner over Vice President Al Gore with +55% of the vote.
"The 'Kids' Vote' seems to work as a good barometer of the actual
presidential vote because, developmentally, kids between the ages of 2 and 11 share the same opinions and outlooks as their parents," said Cyma Zarghami, President, Nickelodeon Television. "What really counts, though, is the fact that kids got interested in the campaign and let their voices be heard. That's a great habit to develop and hold on to as they grow into responsible adults."

5. So in a nutshull...
Only people less intelligent than Bush will vote for him. I wonder what the dividing line was... maybe 3rd grade?

8. I think we're witnessing the tragic emergence of the media...
...as bigger influencers of children than their own parents. A friend told me his little nephew burst into tears the other day when his liberal parents were badmouthing Bush*. Seems the little feller "likes Bush*."

:wtf:

10. I assume the poll included pictures of the candidates
Lets see those pictures. I'm willing to bet that they picked a bad pic of Kerry and a nice pic of Bush from 2000.

13. The commercials are what is doing it
I watch my daughter get drawn in to those commercials that expound fear. The commercials lie more than they used to. Kids just aren't cynical like they need to be with this president, like many of their parents. I talk with my children about how not to believe what they see, but I am sure not many do that. I think that it is closer in the upper grades is a good sign.
