Kerry Campaign Renews Attention, Money in Va.
VA still in play? Why else would they spend money there at this stage of the game?

By Michael D. Shear
Washington Post Staff Writer

RICHMOND, Oct. 23 -- Leaders of Democratic presidential candidate John F. Kerry's national campaign have decided to spend an additional $50,000 in Virginia, signaling that they have not given up all hope of winning the state.

Kerry's campaign largely abandoned Virginia this month after investing almost $2 million this summer on television ads and a statewide staff. The campaign's state director and spokesman were sent to states considered more competitive, leaving the campaign exclusively to state party workers

Now, though, state Democrats say they plan to use the extra money for radio or television advertisements in rural parts of the state. They also said that a fundraiser with author John Grisham last week raised a substantial amount of money, including a $100,000 check from one woman. They would not disclose the total raised.

"We believe we can win Virginia," said Lawrence H. Framme III, chairman of Kerry's campaign in the state.

1. WE ARE ON THE MARCH
We are officially on OFFENSE meaning Bush is on DEFENSE. We are now attacking Virginia, Arkansas, Florida, Colorado, Nevada. This means Bush must now defend all those states that he thought were secure. This means Bush has to pull resources from Wisconsin, Michigan, Minnesota, Pennsylvania, New Hampshire, Oregon, Washington.

I hope Kerry adds Arizona, Missouri, WV and NC back in in the next few days. Really spin Bush's head around.

3. Strategic marketing is an option...
Depending on the media market where they make there buys, this could influence voters in West Virginia and North Carolina, two states where Bush support has cratered during the past month.
