Three little vignettes:
1)I am a volunteer co-ordinator for Clark here in northern VA. I received an email two days ago from a couple in my county, who were Dean supporters but were "badgered" by their 14(!) year old son Michael to look at Clark. They came to the house yesterday, and let me know that the entire family is now on the Clark bandwagon, and I made made arrangements to do Clark outreach with their son this Sunday at a local supermarket. (When I go to NH, I'm going to try and get Wes to autograph "Winning Modern Wars" and give it to Michael. Don't tell anyone...). The family will host a houseparty, and they have lots of good newspaper contacts for yours truly to use. Thanks, Michael!
2) I was at the eye doctor on Monday, when the office manager spotted my Clark button. She said "Can I ask you a question about Dean?" "Sure", I said, responses at the ready, "what is it?" "Why is he such an angry man? Every time I see him he looks mad, like someone stole his favorite toy." (Hey, I just report the news, I don't make it). I'm sure everyone can guess where that conversation went. :)
3) I went a a chain bookstore to buy a copy of Clark's book for Michael. The person at the checkout desk said "Wasn't he a Republican until very recently? "Why no", I answered, "Arkansas had no requirement for party affiliation, so he was never registered in either party. He did vote for Republican candidates before, but I wouldn't consider that as being a Republican. Would you?" "No, he answered, "but some of my friends who are (fill in name of likely candidate here) supporters keep telling me that." I then gave him the Clark story - don't know if it changed his mind, but he was quite attentive and thanked me as I was leaving.
Ain't it great to be alive? :D
