Weakly Reader poll(kids poll) says Bush will win. READ
I read on MSN they said that this childrens poll has not bean wrong since 1956. Bush had 60% of the vote. Could it be that the kids are just scared and see W as the big tough guy from Texas? Lets hope. I also saw another kids poll that hasn't been wrong in over 40 years or something like that and they called it for Kerry. Who knows.

I am already starting to get nervous.:(

Not sure how the results were gathered, but I don't think I'll lose any sleep over what the collective political wisdom of 10 year olds think with regards to Presidential polls.

6. The gap this year seems to be between married and single instead of
men and women. I know a lot of the kids have single parents but since they say the kids (especially younger ones) vote like their parents perhaps the marriage gap explains it somewhat.

Kerry won the Nickelodeon vote!

7. But Weekly Reader mostly white folks right...see they aren't counting
people of colour
single women
new college voters.

The reason why the poll used to be effective is because the poll which is primarily younger kids who can't think for themselves which reflects their parents views.

Well families are different now there are more colour, single moms, professional women, first time college voters. The poll won't reflect that because the weekly readers are mostly a homogeneous group.

no biggie!

NEW YORK - Kid power! Democrat John Kerry (news - web sites) is the winner, and the rest of the country should pay attention because the vote on Nickelodeon's Web site has correctly chosen the president of the United States in the past four elections.

Nearly 400,000 children and teens voted, and the results were released Wednesday. Kerry received 57 percent of the vote; President Bush (news - web sites) got 43 percent.

Nickelodeon has been airing information on the Nov. 2 election, plus sponsoring debates where kids could put forth their views on the environment, the war in Iraq (news - web sites) and terrorism. Some animated shows on the cable channel also have been focusing on the election.

34. I was hoping someone would get to that eventually.
Nickelodeon gets a broader representation of children across racial, financial, and religious lines.

They have also been showing EXCELLENT spots regarding the election and the issues involved.

Gotta give 'em props for that.

10. The Weekly Reader poll predicted Bush 1 would beat Clinton and Bush 2
would beat Gore in landslides. This poll tends to pick Republicans, mainly, for some reason which I'm not sure of yet. Also, note, that when the grade levels go up the race tightens greatly.

15. Affluent White Kids
I'm not saying that's the only audience for WR, but a disproportionate number of its readers are from affluent, white suburbs. Smaller schools, poor schools, and schools with large minority populations tend not to be able to afford such luxuries as this magazine. One can subscribe for home delivery, or at least you could in my day, but again, who subscribes? Affluent white kids.

"NOT BUSH" opposite to "Support Our Troops". She said "I'm voting for Bush!" and "I want to rip that (yellow ribbon) to pieces!". Yes, these violent mother-fucking red-necks are teaching their kids to be violent bigots at a young age. We liberals teach our children to be open-minded and "make up your own mind". you tell me that this stupid poll means anything now!

24. Changed so much
The dynamics have changed so much. When has an incumbent been in this close a race? It is either up or down on an incumbent.

I think the fact that we have a war going on in Iraq and the almost mandated patriotism that is required in school skews the child vote. They vote for Bush, because they feel like they have to support the troops. Also, I wonder what percentage of the weekly reader students are in urban democratic areas.

None of these silly anecdotal polls work in a divided and polarized nation. Bush may win, but these polls are meaningless. We have had close races, but this one is so fundamentally different.

38. NOT TRUE they didn't predict correctly in 1992
The only glitch was in 1992. Older students—grade 4 and above—chose Clinton over Bush, 50% to 42%. However younger students chose Bush over Clinton, 64% to 33%. This was the result, perhaps of younger students' greater familiarity with the incumbent President than with this relatively unknown rival, the Governor of Arkansas. The adult vote was Clinton 53% and Bush 47%.
