What happened to the Republican October surprise?
Did it just fade away . . . like Saddam's WMD?

4. Historically, it comes just a couple of days before
There can be NO TIME TO RESPOND for the "surprise" to work effectively. They still have plenty of time.

14. Yes, but it has to be this week because October ends on a Sunday.
Basically they have from TODAY all the way to Friday for their story. If you don't see anything by the weekend it's probably over. Why? Because news stories that break on Saturday/Sunday are almost always ignored (unless they're unbelievably huge). The best day to break a story is MONDAY and FRIDAY because Monday can dominate the week, Friday can dominate the weekend.

If we make it to Friday without anything, the odds of an 'October Surprise' slims considerably.

6. Well.. let's not be overconfident
there is still one week to go or to be exact, 5 days to go. 120 hours is enough for Rove to formula the ideas & tricks to screw Kerry up. Even though I doubt he have anything on him but never know..

9. My Guess...
If there is an October Surprise we are going to see it by Thursday. If they have something they will try to get it out in the media as soon as possible in order to take the focus off the recent news events i.e. the explosives, not going after Zawkari (sp), and the hidden CIA report. Just my opinion, take it for what it's worth.

15. Start of 2nd assault on Fallujah?
It gave them a 4-5 point "crisis" bounce in April. If so, I hope at least half the media doesn't report on the battle.

12. Public so jaded
I'd like to think now that the October surprise idea has been flung about so much that at this point, people know that's exactly what it is. If so, it could cause a backlash. Remember the Bush DUI?

If they do fling something out there, the Dem surrogates should just hammer how this is just dirty crap the GOP is throwing since they can't run on the issues. And every talking Dem head better have that point down!

13. I think it was the missing explosives story. They were supposed to
be the missing WMDs. Somehow things got bollixed up and the story instead bit Uncle Karl on the butt.

16. Didn't you hear it? Bush flip-flopped on gay marriage
now that Kerry told him about Mary Cheney. If you weren't surprised, I promise you Bush's base of hard core Bob Jones University types was plenty surprised for all of us. I would have thought that gay marriage was one of those things that Bush adopted an opinion from his gut (or his heart or the lump on his back or whatever) after praying and getting the straight dope from God. For Bush to flip flop like that on an issue so important to his base, you know that there's some bad internal polling data that KKKarl stepped in. Do you think Bush even had someone read the text of the Constitutional amendment to him? I so, even a chimp would be able to tell that his statements on gay unions is a 100% turn around from his recent position on the Constitutional amendment. Plus, as far as strategic timing goes, Bush's flip flop on the issue is too late to kiss and make up with Andrew Sullivan.

17. All they have is more of the Swiftboat liars. Ha Ha Ha.
They must not realize that O'Neill has been thoroughly and completely discredited and discounted by every legitimate news organization. I guess Fox is staying with him ... but I said "legitimate."

So they'll keep up the blah-blah about John Kerry and Jane Fonda aiding and abetting the enemy ... too bad for them that so many people have seen "Going Upriver" and know the truth.

Regarding an October surprise ... it's a bit late already. In some places a third of the vote is already in.
