Waht do you make of this?
In the last week I've had three Republicans bascially say the following to me: "I just hope it's a decisive victory because a long fight would be bad for the country." The three were a Limbaugh loving lawyer, a former right wing hill staffer and a Republican businessman. All three are or have been very politically active.

This is gnawing at me because I think it might be a sign that Bush is going to glide to a decisive victory based on some factor or surprise we haven't thought of. Maybe they are being honest and I'm just being paranoid. What do you think?

3. I think they're just gearing up ...
to use the same argument used in 2000. Oh, you Dems, just give up. It's bad for the country to claim voter fraud!

4. Lame Non-Descriptive Thread Title. You can do better.
Your title is a Lame Non-Descriptive Thread Title. You can do better. Begin by reading:

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.ph...

A better Thread Title would be something like:

"Even Republicans want a decisive victory either way"

or

"Republicans expect a decisive victory. October Surprise coming?"

5. I Think they're being honest
They know that if there's a whiff of Republican thievery in the air, this country will go bonkers. I think they also know it will not be decisive. And they also know that the Democrats have a lot of power.

If I am not satisfied with the validity of the results, I am going to stop buying things from US retailers, only buy essentials etc., and then only from food coops etc. There are plenty of Canadian and European retailers that will ship to the USA.

7. I don't see their comments as unusual, actually
Hell, I'd prefer a decisive victory, too. If anything, it sounds like they're worried Bush won't win by more than a hair.

9. I actually think it's the opposite...
When I first read that I took it as they're worried - "ooh, I HOPE it's decisive". No confidence in what they're saying at all. Believe me, I live in the Bible belt of PA and the Repubs around here are hopping worried. They know they're in big trouble, a majority of the country thinks we're headed in the wrong direction (which according to Paul Begala is the #1 predictor of re-election success or failure), and most importantly, our base is fired up like never before. The number of progressive-minded people far outnumbers those who are part of the Sheep - the Sheep just vote much, much more often than we do.

Remember, by all indications turnout is going to be HUGE Tuesday. High turnout always equals success for Democrats :)

We ARE winning and we're in excellent shape to win, so don't be dragged down in GOP talk ;) Don't let them steal our momentum!

17. If you want to get a good feel of how this election is going
check out free republic. What you will instantly notice is that there are precious few posts or threads from republican campaigners that are working on getting out the vote for Shrub. Instead the forum is proliferated with idle Bushbots that spend their day flaming Kerry and glorifying their agent of God. This is yet another indication that Bush has serious problems at the local grassroots level where elections are won and lost.

The reason for this is simple. Bush has turned off a significant portion of his conservative base, much like his dad did, and it is the conservatives, not the neocons, that do most of the local campaigning. The neocons feel above such lowly work.

This is going to hurt Shrub big time come election day.

Meanwhile here on DU excitement abounds and many many democrats are working in the Kerry/Edwards campaign and reporting what they see in their states and town.

This is going to lead to a very high turnout for Kerry and a lower than expected turnout for Bush. Take it to the bank.

26. Totally agreed.
They can't run on a message (they have none), their record (it's deplorable), or the future (we all know how shitty that looks). Therefore, they have no other recourse but to make minute attempts to try and steal our enthusiasm, excitement, and passion for electing John Kerry.

It hasn't worked until now and it simply WILL NOT work. We're energized, motivated, andexcited, and we know we're gonna win. Period!

19. Why didn't they take their on advice last time?
Democrats will no longer take the high road when it comes to counting every vote.

The Holy Presidency

Bush: Be quiet! I order you to be quiet!

Democrats: Order, eh? Who does he think he is?

Bush: I am your president!

Democrats: Well, I didn't vote for you.

Bush: You don't vote for presidents.

Democrats: Well, how did you become president, then?

Bush: The blacked robed supreme justices appoint you. That is why I am your president!

Democrats: Listen. Strange unelected individuals living in ivory towers distributing power to one egotistical maniac is no basis for a system of government. Supreme executive power derives from a mandate from the masses, not from some farcical judicial appointment by people who run around in black robes who are themselves appointed by people in power.

20. I agree with them......
Either way I don't want a close election that is going to be contested in the courts like 2000. However, did they say they just want a decisive BUSH victory? Or just that either candidate wins decisively?
