7. I have a bad feeling about this. Somewhere Rove is wringing
his hands saying, "Excellent, excellent"... If it is widely reported later this week that the munitions were gone when U.S. troops arrived, this will make Kerry look too eager to jump on it.

This story is deadly for Bush no matter what. Even if the explosives were gone by the time we got there, why haven't we been looking for them? We knew they were supposed to be there all along.

The simple fact we "lost" 760,000lbs of explosives that is on the black market or stashed somewhere is downright SCARY and proves with deep resolve that the world is far from being safer under the Bush presidency.

49. Uh? Your point makes no sense
The issue is 'where are the weapons'

They are contradicting themselves by claiming that intelligence led them to believe there were WMDs yet they did not go into Iraq with enough troops to secure them let alone the other explosives.

It is obvious the bush team has sucked at everything to do with this war.

15. Nah the point is made
If we had let the inspectors do their jobs this would never have been an issue, period. Bush authorized the war, without allowing inspectors to complete their due diligence.

In Bush's big project of many many details this TIER 2 item of significance was clearly misprioritized and neglected.

If * ever had to go the boardroom, Trump would tell him "YOU'RE FIRED!"

Let's keep this story in the forefront and make sure * gets his pink slip.

The administration has virtually no credibility left. Damage is done. If the rest of the week is spent trying to spin or debunk this, Bush loses the news cycle every night. He's out of time. His only hope is something distracting short attention span Americans.

22. Other forgotten ammo dump
This is not the first ammo dump left unprotected. The third episode of "Off to War" on Discovery Times told of another one. The Arkansas National Guard deployed in Taji (the same location the fuel convoy refused to go) were sent to destroy ammunitions at a site May 2004. The troops were pretty upset because they saw where the mortars they had been hit with on a regular basis were coming from, an unguarded help yourself ammo dump. No attempt to clean it up had been made before they were sent in. It is mentioned on their timeline for the series.

30. Great work
They better not back down on thi sone.

There is some question as to when they went missing, but it's very likely it was during our invasion and not before.

CNN and the apologists are trying to spin damage control for Bush.

We need to emphasize the dates in March when it was confirmed the site was not tampered with.

We have the inspectors, the satellite photos, and our troops and a Pentagon source sayign we confirmed the site was sealed on invasion.

32. A distortion of NBC's reporting
Edited on Tue Oct-26-04 03:11 PM by nebula
CNN makes a mockery of broadcast journalism.

CNN) -- "The mystery surrounding the disappearance of 380 tons of powerful explosives from a storage depot in Iraq has taken a new twist, after a television news crew embedded with the U.S. military during the invasion of Iraq reported that the material could not be found when American troops arrived.

NBC News reported that on April 10, 2003, its crew was embedded with the U.S. Army's 101st Airborne Division when troops arrived at the Al Qaqaa storage facility south of Baghdad.

While the troops found large stockpiles of conventional explosives, they did not find HMX or RDX, the types of powerful explosives that reportedly went missing, according to NBC.

The International Atomic Energy Agency revealed Monday that it had been told two weeks ago by the Iraqi government that 380 tons of HMX and RDX disappeared from Al Qaqaa after Saddam Hussein's government fell.

In a letter to the IAEA dated October 10, Iraq's director of planning, Mohammed Abbas, said the material disappeared sometime after Saddam's regime fell in April 2003, which he attributed to "the theft and looting of the governmental installations due to lack of security."

Baghdad fell on April 9, 2003. According to NBC, troops from the 101st Airborne arrived the next day and could not find the material."

And, with that, Big John puts out a cigarette in the GOP's eye.

I'm liking the straightforward style of this advertisement. It's much more powerful than the obnoxious Bush ads, which sometimes look like expensive Powerpoint Presentations "intellectualized" with British voiceovers. Although I can hardly blame them. The last time Bush tried to put out an honest advertisement his wife was so heavily Xanaxed she might as well have had woodpeckers drilling holes in her skull.

Letting the candidate actually talk about an issue beats the "I'm xxx and I approved this message" addendum any day.

there is no doubt that the Admin made no effort to look for it or to secure it. Saying, oh well, it was already gone (if true--that probably a lie), does not excuse the fact that they had no plan, made no effort, did nothing, to deal with it responsibly.

Now the oil fields and the oil ministry, that's a whole other priority.
