I will not tear down any Bush Cheney signs even though
my K/E signs have been stolen from my front yard. Also, I do not condone removing Bush Cheney signs from public places, intersections, etc.

I will, however, rip down any public place signs that spread more lies and/or smear John Kerry. In fact, I just had the joy of removing five different signs from busy intersections in Western Pa. that, among other things, blamed the recession on Clinton, said that Kerry couldn't fight a war on terror because he used the word "sensitve", and linked Saddam with 9/11 and terrorists.

By the way, if you see such BS and feel funny or afraid to rip them down just park your car right in front of the sign and nobody will see if you are putting one up or what the hell you are up to. Frankly, most people speeding by couldn't give a rat's ass what some goomba is doing along the side of the road.

1. I feel the same...
I've been so tempted to rip down B/C signs that I have seen in my neighborhood but I will not stoop to the same levels as the Repukes. Karma is a bitch.

2. Well, sometimes you can remove them from public places and intersections
Depending on local sign ordinances.
We're currently having a sign war in my county and I'm taking it upon myself to remove those from the nasty, race-baiting god-awful Republican running for my district commissioner. I think of it as a public service.

3. Right on...
I am the same way and think every morning when I am jogging (well before sun up) that it is the perfect time to do it, but in this country, we are all FREE to express our thoughts (even if they happen to be wrong!). :)

4. If I found one had been planted in my own yard without permission
I would do a little redecorating job on it, possibly a nice swastika border, maybe a sign next to it with a tart comment or two.

It's juvenile to deface somebody else's yard or property, though.

5. Good Attitude
Tearing down B/C signs is just being a republican yourself.
Show that you are a good Democrat and a good Liberal and turn the other cheek. Put another sign up and if they steal it, so be it.

6. If they are on public property, or
in front of an apartment building that houses Democrats, I think it's okay to take them down.

Otherwise, we should let them express their political allegiance.

7. Right, sounds like we are all on the same page

I was a little sick of seeing all the Bush/Cheney signs at first but Kerry Edwards is matching them nicely in PA.

Plus just putting the words Bush/Cheney in front of most people probably does nothing for them while it may sicken some (like us).

I often wondered what the actual affect on voting signs have in a presidential campaign. I'm sure some PolySci major has written a thesis on it.

8. Nope. You're being disingenuous, Elbayl.
John Kerry would repudiate your actions in a heartbeat.

You're acting no better than the person or persons who took your K/E signs; they, too, will have been telling themselves that speech must be stopped in the name of some Truth they are defending.

9. I once busted an elephant's head off
Edited on Tue Oct-26-04 01:57 PM by Jersey Devil
One year we (local Dems) got really tired of our signs being ripped down (as they were every year) so we went out in the middle of the night dressed in black like ninjas and hauled away their plywood elephant signs, took the heads off some of them and dumped them on the Mayor's lawn.

Of course, I was very young and very drunk, but it was fun

10. All humans are capable of this....but let's be a little less capable
We had something like 37 signs stolen in one night here (no B/C signs) and it was reported to have seen a Black Suburban with an adult driving and kids popping out, plucking them up, and moving on.

By the way, these were all on private property. I and three other groups of cars are sitting up all night squads with video cameras this week. We plan to do some bustin'!

13. I've thought of leaving notes...
...explaining to people why they should not support Bush-Cheney, but I do not believe in taking away signs or removing bumper stickers, though God knows I'm tempted. You just don't do that.

However, I did peel a Nader sticker off a street lamp in Bethesda, MD, one time. That was years ago.

Then again, I think I'd do that again.

14. utility poles are public property
So you can tear any signs off them you want to, cut the b/c ones up into little pieces, and tape back together into peace signs to repost.
