Our Post-Victory Agenda Will Be Getting Kerry's Agenda Through Congress |
|
While Kerry does face a bitterly divided Congress, the obstacles are not insurmountable. While I agree that part of our function is to ensure Democratic victories on election day, we also need to start thinking about effectively organizing a movement to put pressure on our local members of Congress to put Kerry's agenda into action.
We have seen what an effect internet organization can have on the media through our letter writing campaigns, and we need to keep on top of these lazy journalists/news personalities, but also keep on top of the officials themselves.
Obviously, we'll never have the spending power of the big lobbying groups, but Congressman are very hesitant to put aside too casually a letter from a constituent.
We are on the brink of major reforms in health care and energy policy. But we can't let up and let government go on auto pilot after November 2 - because we all know that it's the lobbyists who control the auto pilot.
In the meantime, get everyone you know and don't know out to the polling booths next week.

On Nov 3 we need to look towards the future. The bonds formed by this campaign cannot be allowed to fade away. If there is to be reform in this country let it start here and now!
