Question About Republicans Planning to Challenge Voters In Ohio
As everyone knows the Republicans are sending thousands of storm troopers paid at $100.00 each to challenge voters in Ohio. It is clear that they intend to so slow the progress of the election that people will just get tired of waiting and just leave and therefore not vote. If that is there goal don't these same republicans also risk sending home republican and therefore Bush supporters at the same time? Isn't it in the republican's interest to keep the line flowing just as it is the democrats? I wonder if they even stopped to consider how many Bush votes they may be putting at risk?
Any thoughts on this?

9. From Washington Post, 10/23/04:

Ohio Democrats were struggling to match the Republicans' move, which had been rumored for weeks. Both parties had until 4 p.m. to register people they had recruited to monitor the election. Republicans said they had enlisted 3,600 by the deadline, many in heavily Democratic urban neighborhoods of Cleveland, Dayton and other cities. Each recruit was to be paid $100.

Believe it.

4. We have hundreds, maybe thousands of lawyers ready
and if there is a pattern of challenges that is obstructing voting there will be injunctions in short order. Don't worry. I think we have this part covered.

5. their plan (though i don't think it will work bc we are ready)
is to do this at all of the polling places that are predominantly democratic, and slow those places down, while leaving the predominantly republican precincts alone so they can vote unimpeded. like i said though, it won't work.

7. That is certianly good to hear
I was not sure what the democratic response would be to such a clear attempt to supress voting. Glad to hear they are going for the throat right out of the gate on this one.

10. The Democrats are ALL OVER this.
They will not sit by and let it happen this time. In fact I think Kerry should have thrown down the gauntlet in the last debtate and challenged the President to say something about how it wouldn't be tolerated.

8. This whole thing strikes me as blatantly undemocratic, if not illegal.
Whose business is it other then each precinct's own election workers to check voter's credentials?

Have they considered how many Bush voters they're putting at risk? Of COURSE they have. That's why they'll be asking primarily minorities in primarily Democratic-leaning districts to prove their credentials.

That smacks of voter intimidation to me, and from what I have read (in some major newspaper article, but I forget where), it is paid for and funded by the RNC.

Again, who the F*** are they to ask me to prove my eligibility to vote?!?! Why the HELL is this being allowed at all?!

11. It's simple.
The voters they're planning to challenge are black. That's all this is.

13. As a former Clevelander and
one who has just returned from a voter reg drive there last month, I can tell you that, a bunch of white boys hanging around the polls f**king w/ black folks at the polls in THEIR hood aint gonna go over big and will likely be dealt with in the old fashion way.

Mark my words.....I got a call this morning on this topic. The cops & EMT's will be plenty busy.

14. GOP dropping challenges in Dayton....
Edited on Tue Oct-26-04 03:21 PM by AngryOldDem
Out of bad PR more than anything else -- GOP challenged a soldier who was fighting in Iraq for a year. I thought he would be part of Bush's "base"? The state GOP will withdraw all 2,319 Montgomery County challenges sometime Tuesday.

It must be noted that the county GOP chairman did not want challengers, but had to take them because he cannot buck the state party.

Anyway, just FYI.

16. In all honesty, I do not believe them......
They filed the challenger list 30 minutes before the deadline.....Dayton GOP knew all the time....how could they not know of the challenger/blindsiding issue.....and still spew the lie......that they are in an honest partisan agreement with Democrats.....
