Are early voting results available to the public? |

In MN folks can vote absentee starting 30 day before election. Those absentee votes are not opened and counted until close of election.

2. I'm pretty sure it's law everywhere that ballots cast early cannot be |
|
opened and counted until polls close on Election Night.

3. Only how many ballots have been received |
|
Until all ballots are in at the close of the polls any "results" would just be exit polls (guesses).

4. Are the Proportion of Registered Reps/Dems Voting Available? |
|
I've seen that statistic bandied about but don't know where it comes from. Another statistic that might give a clue is the number of ballots cast in traditionally Dem vs Rep precints.

I'm an election judge, and the absentee ballots are not counted until after the polls close.

6. No, but from reports you can get a good idea |
|
Edited on Tue Oct-26-04 03:43 PM by impeachbushnow
For example, in West Virginia there have been 4,625 early votes cast by registered D's and 2,861 registered R's.
In Nevada it stands at 73,538 registered D's and 70,637 registered R's.
Of course there is nothing to say that just because they are registered as a member of a specific party that they in fact cast their vote that way.
On edit, these figures come from county officials in those states.

7. California law (Elections Code) |
|
says that early votes are treated like absentee ballots. In California, these can be processed begininng at E-7 (election day minus seven), which is today. By law, the outer envelopes may be opened and the ballots grouped or sorted for counting. Actual counting is done when polls close and tally is posted to public right after that.
