Campaign strategy- Edwards'
Edited on Tue Oct-26-04 03:49 PM by yellowdawgdem
I've been noticing that during this last week before the nov 2 election, that Kerry and Bush are both rushing to the midwestern swing states to campaign. Michigan, Ohio mainly. I'm curious why John and Elizabeth Edwards have not been focussing more on southern states such as Tennessee, which have a much bigger dem turnout than usual. I'm not sure where all of the last minute campaining is taking place, and whether these appearances are really going to change anyone's mind. But they seem to positively affect voter turnout. Very impt in a swing state, I'd guess.
But I was wondering why no last minute appearances have been scheduled in Tn, since JE seems very popular there, and could make a difference in voter turnout. It seems that so much energy is being poured into Ohio, and when that happens, something is sure to go wrong in Ohio. Even if nothing goes haywire there, it still seems like better strategy to go for several swing states. There will be many surprises in the election, and you just don't know, in the end, which will turn blue.

1. I've had questions, too. After seeing Eliz. Edwards' town hall over
the weekend, I regret she didn't do one here in Las Cruces, NM, the southern part of the state. Teresa came and appealed to a different crowd, and there were plenty of snide remarks in the coverage and the sound-off column afterwards. John K. was here Sat. and I'm glad that his focus on "values" was picked up at least some in the crowd and quoted in the paper. That made me think that Eliz. Edwards would have had great appeal to many Hispanic women in particular, because of her obvious "mommmy status," warmth, and overall appearance.

2. The strategy you suggest was tried by Dean
the strategy that Kerry seems to be following is the one that worked in the primaries

3. The primaries and the gen. election
are not the same animal, and I don't think the strategies should be identical. Maybe it has to do with ev's, which states have the most, or enough to matter.
