HELP! My dad's undecided, but might vote Kerry if.... |
|
he knew who Kerry would have on his cabinet.
Tell me, do you know who Kerry will probably pick for these position:
Sec. of State? Sec. of Environment? Sec. of Defense? Sec. of Energy?
My dad voted for Bush last time, although he really preffered McCain, because he supported the gov.program my dad headed and because Powell was his Sec. of State. But now that he's retired and Powell is resigning he's undecided. He says he be more likely to vote Kerry/Edwards if he knew who Kerry will put on his cabinet.
-What should I tell him?
Thanks for your help.

But you can see the type of people he has chosen to surround himself with in his campaign.

2. Tell him McCain Secretary of Defense. That should hook him, |
|
and if I'm wrong, have him call me to yell at me.

And he damn well deserves it! He's a fighter and we need more of that in our party.

5. Ask him who he'd like to see in Kerry's cabinet |
|
and then confirm "that's a distinct possibility."

8. The only concrete thing Kerry has said for himself |
|
is that he wants women, minorities, and at least one or two REPUBLICANS. All else is speculation. But perhaps knowing Kerry wants some Republicans in there with him will help.

Sec. of State -- someone who understands the need for diplomacy Sec. of Environment -- someone who understands the need not to clear cut the forests and return to the smog filled days of the 1970s Sec. of Defense -- someone not a neocon warmongerer Sec. of Energy -- someone who understands the need to develop new, alternative fules and isn't a former oil/gas executive
tell your dad that voting for bush again will get us involved in even more pre-emptive wars; will make us an even greater pariah in the international community; will increase the derisive nature of our country; will line the pockets of oil and drug corporations at the expense of our natural resources and health of our citizens; will fundamentally change the structure of social security (think S&L disaster at a monumental scale); will usher in decades of a conservative-activist supreme court - and who knows what liberties and hard won rights they'll roll back.......

Edited on Tue Oct-26-04 08:50 PM by Pirate Smile
Republicans to his Cabinet? Maybe Lugar or Hagel.
The "they" is the pundits, "experts" from a discussion of his governing style on Cspan last week.
I heard Holbrook doesn't want Sec of State, maybe NSA instead. Biden for Sect. of State.

17. When Kerry was on Imus, he mentioned McCain as possible Sec of Def. |
|
I think Joe Biden could be Secretary of State, if he wants it.
Max Cleland at Homeland Security.
Wes Clark as National Security Advisor.
Bob Graham at CIA
The rest? Who knows. But, John Kerry, as a Washington insider, has an advantage of having worked with and observed a lot of the players and would have good, solid judgment about who would excel in leadership positions.
John Kerry is a thoughtful and reasonable man. (BTW, I think John McCain is secretly pulling for Kerry.)

18. Isn't it enough to know he'll replace the incompentent with the competent? |
|
I mean there are so many competent people to choose from, only * would pick such a bunch of losers.
Condi Rice - Remember he put her in charge of Iraq when she is an "expert" on the Soviet Union. It's gone and it's been gone. Cheney - "We don't need to have the counter-terrorism task force meet, we're busy looting the Treasury." Rumsfeld - "The Iraqis are not looting, they're acting free." Snow - How is that job market doing? Powell - I'm sorry, but the guy hates to fly. Not the right person for Secretary of State. Thompson - shortage of flu vaccine LAST year and no plan for this year. Tenet - Yeah, Clinton appointed him, but when he showed incompetence, * should have fired him.
I'm sorry, but there are so many competent people to choose from. Biden, McCain, Luger, my mom.....

OF ENVIRONMENT Ralph Nader sec. of energy,AL gore sec. of state first ask john McCain then appoint JOE BYDEN SEC OF DEFENSE.

22. How bout this guy for Education: |
|
Michael Gurian:
"...an educator, family therapist and author of fourteen books, including the best selling The Wonder of Boys, A Fine Young Man, and The Good Son. He is an internationally celebrated speaker and writer whose work has been featured in the New York Times, the Wall Street Journal... and other national publications..."
(From one of his book jackets)
My wife, who will finish her degree and begin teaching next year, has read several of his books and thinks he's really got it figured out. I think it might be good to have a REAL educator doing it for a change.
