6. As I've said many times before, when the gov & prez own a state,
like Florida, they will win that state in an election. They own the Sec of State, who runs the election process, as well as the majority of the elections officials.

11. Local 10 Uncovers Big Ballot Mystery
http://www.local10.com/politics/3854230/detail.html

BROWARD COUNTY, Fla. -- Local 10 has received many phone calls from viewers in Broward County who say they have not received the absentee ballots –- and the news from the elections office doesn't sound good.

Local 10 has learned that many as many as 58,000 ballots that were supposed to mailed out on Oct. 7 and 8 could be missing.

The Broward County Supervisor of Elections office is saying only that the situation is "unusual," and they are looking into it.

Gisela Salas, Broward Deputy Elections Supervisor, said, "I hate to say 'missing' at this time because that has not yet be substantiated. Some ballots are starting to arrive. But there is an extraordinary delay."

Kerry picking up a lot of the west, and one or two swings Gore missed could do it. Not dismissing Florida, but recognizing and cutting loss is how you win

32. Broward officials blame U.S. Postal Service over missing ballots
http://www.miami.com/mld/miamiherald/news/politics/10022946.htm?1c

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. - Broward County officials blamed the U.S. Postal Service Tuesday for misplacing nearly half of the absentee ballots requested in the county, as frustrated voters trying to find out what happened overwhelmed phone lines at the elections office.

The Postal Service denied responsibility for the missing ballots, but Broward officials said they sent about 58,000 ballots more than two weeks ago, on Oct. 7-8. As of Tuesday, 126,220 absentee ballots had been requested.

"That is something beyond our control," Deputy Supervisor of Elections Gisela Salas told the South Florida Sun-Sentinel. "We really have no idea what's going on. It's just taken an extraordinary amount of time. I would really encourage people to use early voting."

"We have employees that we assign to handle the absentee ballots that come in," said Enola C. Rice, spokeswoman for the Postal Service's South Florida District. "So all the absentee ballots that are received by the postal service are processed and delivered immediately."

34. There is only one reasonable solution
Broward County should be required to re-send, via overnight mail, EVERY SINGLE ABSENTEE BALLOT. That is the ONLY way to make sure that everyone who requested an absentee ballot gets one. It should not be up to the individual voters to make an additional absentee ballot request, because it is obvious that Broward County does not have sufficient staff or phone lines to handle the request.

Second, because the mailings of absentee ballots were unreasoanbly delayed, they county could be required to county any absentee ballot as long as it was POSTMARKED by election day.

If the Florida Democratic Party and the Kerry Campaign fail to go to court first thing in the morning and seek a judicial decree ordering the Broward County elections office to send out new absentee ballots, then shame on them.

Needless to say, anyone in Ft. Lauderdale who hasn't received an absentee ballot so use early voting.

38. Fort Lauderdale Newspaper Article
http://www.sun-sentinel.com/news/local/southflorida/sfl-cvoting27oct27,0,5500813.story?coll=sfla-home-headlines

The Broward County Supervisor of Elections Office pointed a finger at the U.S. Postal Service on Tuesday for nearly 60,000 missing absentee ballots, but took the blame for having a phone system that was being overwhelmed by calls from frustrated voters.

While the post office denied responsibility for the missing ballots, Broward County commissioners, anxious to avoid another failed election, offered to send county employees to help with the phones. Dozens of employees could begin assisting the elections office today to answer telephone calls and to process voters at the 14 early voting sites.

<snip>

Those living out of town can call Broward election officials and request another ballot, which officials said will be sent through overnight mail.

Florida ballot papers go missing

Tens of thousands of postal ballots have gone missing in the US state of Florida, sparking fresh concern over irregularities in the poll campaign.
Some 60,000 absentee ballots were despatched by authorities in Broward County, north of Miami, this month.

However, only 2,000 of them have been delivered.

Florida was the centre of controversies which delayed the result in 2000, with George W Bush eventually declared the winner in the state by 537 votes.

Once again, to find out what is happening in America, one must look to the British press.

For decades, the BBC has been a traditional source of news and information for those living in places deprived of a free and independent press. That is why this American living in the age of Bush and corporatism turns to the BBC Online.
