Poll question: Who is taking vacation on Election Day to work for Kerry or Local Dems?
I am calling off Monday and Tuesday to GOTV and to work my poll since I am a Democratic Committee woman for my area.

4. Taking off Nov. 1, 2, 3
I'm taking vacation on Nov. 1 and 2 to make calls and canvass. I'm hoping on Nov. 3 I can relax. I won a free spa day in a Kerry fund raising raffle and my plan to pamper myself. Realistically, I live in Ohio and we may have more work to do after election day.

7. Taking off 11/02 for doing whatever necessary, 11/03 to recover
Hopefully, I'll find out during our last weekend canvassing how I can best be used on Nov. 2. I plan to vote early this week so I'm at the K/E campaign's complete disposal...and expect to watch election returns with friends and and family election night. It's only one week from today. MKJ

11. I took Oct 29, Nov. 1, 2, and 3 off
And will present myself to the Milwaukee campaign, arms outstretched: "Take me."

We're setting up shop in the union office, from whence all directives shall come. I am to report there to see where they need me most, since I don't live in any Milwaukee district.

I figured it was better to GOTV in the Blue part of town than to fight against the Reds in my neck of the woods.

As goes Milwaukee, so goes Wisconsin.

Here are a couple of good sites I just found if anyone wants to know how it's going in Wisconsin.

14. Maybe

I just emailed the Democratic Party volunteer coordinator in Virginia offering my services to election day.

I said I'd pretty much do anything to help.

I'll wait for an email tomorrow and then I am in. I am taking both tuesday and wednesday off if I volunteer. If not, just Wednesday.

18. I agree
I own my own business, so can make my own schedule usually. I have to be in OH on business later next week, so I'm taking off Monday and Tuesday to help Kerry win the state and the election!

My brother and his wife are both taking time off from their jobs to fly out from NYC to also help in OH.

No vacation day because I am unemployed.

When I worked for the American Red Cross, I had to take vacation day. Funny that for an organization that depends so much on volunteers that they didn't consider it like a Jury duty day.

On edit:
We don't get a lunch break. We are there from 5:00 until the votes are counted at the precinct -- That could be as late as 10:00, 10:30?
We have a break table in the corner because we cannot leave the room except for rest room breaks.

The doors are open from 6:00 - 7:00. Anyone in line at 7:00 gets to vote. I have no idea when the line will finish. I expect it to be long and slow.

21. You bet! been planning for this for 4 long years
and am listening to Michael Moore's advice in a MoveOn em today-"do you really need clean socks that bad?"

Dear Friends,
Forget the laundry. Let the dirty dishes pile up in the sink. Break out the TV dinners and tell the kids to do their own homework.

My friends, I need you to put your daily routine on hold for the next 200 hours.

The great grassroots geniuses at MoveOn PAC need 1,157 more volunteers in the next 24 hours to mobilize voters in the battleground neighborhoods they're targeting in Seattle and other key areas. So pick up the phone and call the MoveOn PAC office closest to you. Right now. (Stop reading this -- I mean it, call right now!)

Seattle: (206) 443 6269

Or, sign up on MoveOn PAC's website and a local staffer will call you within 24 hours to get you started:

http://www.moveonpac.org/lnvb/

You live in a swing state, so you really can't leave this to anyone else. I don't want to wake up on Nov. 3 and see Washington colored red. And I know YOU would rather eat wet socks than watch Peter Jennings talk about how the Republicans out-hustled us and out-smarted us on Election Day.

I went to my local Kerry headquarters for a yard sign and they were all out! I think that's a good thing. I volunteered and will be a poll watcher. This is the first time in my life I have ever been involved other than to vote. What has happened the past four years has been an awakening for me.

34. Can't do anything Election Day....
Just found out schools are closed here that day. Much as I'd like, I can't keep my six-year-old son at the polls all day. He'd never cooperate.

But I am going door-to-doo canvassing Monday for Kerry and for Guy Derryberry, local Dem running for state rep seat against Repub incumbent.

Any advice from DUers about how to do a good job? I won't be alone but this will be the first time I've ever done something like this. Any tips would be appreciated.

I took the 1st, 2d and 3d off (the last to get over the hangover). I'm scheduled to work phones on Saturday, Monday and Tuesday and to be a "Runner" between my local voting place and HQ to report periodically during the day who hasn't voted yet.

Oh yes, I also volunteered to provide a batch of good eats for the volunteers. After all, as Napoleon said, "an Army travels on its stomach".
