Kerry Calling Out Bush on Lack of True Christian Values
http://www.nytimes.com/2004/10/25/politics/campaign/25trail.html?pagewanted=all&position=

Excerpts:
Rebuking one of the most openly religious presidents in recent history, Mr. Kerry said that Christians believed in caring for the sick, housing the homeless, feeding the hungry and stopping violence but that the administration was not heeding those teachings.

...In a particularly partisan talk from the pulpit of the Mount Hermon A.M.E. Church here, Mr. Kerry said Mr. Bush had chosen profits for drug companies over lower prices for the elderly and had spurned veterans and the unemployed while giving tax cuts to the rich.

"Oh, no, they didn't choose the least among us, they chose the most powerful among us," he said. "They keep on thinking it's the most powerful who deserve the most, some kind of entitlement."

...Mr. Kerry said his faith meant "holding to a vision of a society of the common good."

"Catholics call this solidarity," he said, adding that as president, "I will put middle-class families, and those who are struggling to join the middle class, ahead of the interests of the well-to-do and the well-connected."
I just wish he'd add the going to hell part! Maybe it's better for now he doesn't.

3. Bush is Anti-Christian
He's the very antithesis of Christ. Instead of seeking to heal and care for the sick, downtrodden and destitute, he seeks instead to annihilate them by denying their needs and sending them off to die in for-profit warfare. Anyone who claims Christianity and doesn't clearly see this doesn't know the facets of their own religion.

6. Did Kerry mention the part about "Cheney not fitting his fat ass through
the eye of a needle?"
(it goes something like that.)

9. Good Point, Kerry, with the Solidarity...
....reminds you of the Polish Workers uprising in the 80's. If I'm not mistaken, among other things, that had to do with a squeeze of the middle class as well...I was young then though, so I barely remember it...but I remember my Roman Catholic Church (St. Michaels in DuBois, PA, which had a large Polish congregation) was very outspoken about the solidarity movement in poland.

11. "The Common Good". A Phrase I've Used Often Here On DU
Edited on Tue Oct-26-04 10:48 PM by cryingshame
and wish others would also make use of...

This is the angle of attack I have advocated for the Democratic nominee for the last four years.

Wesley Clark had the "Democrats Value Families" thing down.

Glad to see Kerry using this.

Do NOT cede Patriotism and Morality to the Right.

13. christ was hijacked! the yankees were robbed!!
11 years of catholic school. i never really did any of the sacraments correctly after baptism. would not confess all, swallow the lord, reaffirm anything, etc. i have never really been a joiner, but i stayed a christian to the core no matter what other crazy things I believed. . even as an atheist i remained a christian. i loved the dude who helped lazarus and the hos and most of all taught me to love my brothers and sisters as i love myself.
I cant tell you how embarrassed i've felt by the vocal right wing for the longest time.
kerry gets the jesus i remember, and it touched me a lot after years of politically induced shame of being christian.
I am finding these hard to love.i wish i could say lord help them.... i could only say lord help them find another vocation asap. Next week.
i know the yankees weren't robbed, i was just being sensationalist, i'm from the bx and babe ruth died on my birthday. but maybe they sacrificed themselves for the good of John Kerry and our our nation. the bronx bombers might deserve our thanks. i say you must love the least of their players as you would love the sox.
