Write down your success stories!!!
I just got off the phone with my mom...I've been emailing her things for the last few years...she has always voted straight Republcian for as long as I've been alive...she had said in an email that she had questions about Bush, but couldn't vote for Kerry because he was diametrically opposed to everything she believes in...that got to me...cause she is a Christian, hello!!
She is southern Baptist...loves James Dobson and Hal Lindsey...Bible Codes and the Left Behind Series...that being said, she's a wonderful mother...
Today she called cause it was my birthday, and I figured she would let me yap on since she couldnt be mean today...
I went through it...what did she oppose from Kerry...why was she diametrically opposed to everything she believed in...
1. Gay Marriage...I gave her the deal on that, Bush and Kerry agree on it, they both say civil unions ok, gay marraige not...well, she didn't believe me, she says no, Kerry believes in gay marraige...I'm sending her that link now...
2. Abortion...my mom is very pro-life...but again, I said that abortions went UP under Bush because he doesn't give the sex education that is necessary...and that they went down under Clinton...
3. Health Care...she was being weird and asking, what about me, will it help me...I said, fine you can opt into it, but you probably got it better now, this can help about 27 million who have nothing, it will safe thousands of lives...finally she agreed...
4. Taxes...umm, she is really into that poor people dont deserve the money...but seriously, what will Jesus do...40% of poor people are children!! so tax their parents...progressive taxation is becaues of ECONOMIC reasons!! I need to work harder there...she ended that part by saying that I should give poor people my money...ummm, I'm a teacher...anyways, need more work there...
5. Kerry is a flip flopper...well, that was because Bush's spin was effective...so I'm ignoring that one...
But, I got her to agree with me on a lot...
SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!
She is not voting for Bush, she's voting for Nader (which is hysterical to me since he actually does believe in gay marriage...whatever...
But, she is in Florida, and isn't voting for Bush, that's the important thing, and she's voted Republclians since I was born...this is HUGE to me...I got her to NOT vote for Bush...
My other "accomplishments" (ALL in Florida!): My friend and her husband who voted for Bush in 2000 are voting for Kerry...my other friend voted Nader in 2000, and is voting for Kerry... My physical therapist (knee injury)has never voted before, I got him and his wife to register (actually brought in the forms)...he's voting Kerry, his wife doen't know anything he thinks she may like Bush, but I gave him the New Yorker article and said that his birthday present to me was to get his wife to read through it and talk about it...and he promised he would:) I loaned out my copy of Outfoxed to the physical therapy people, and they said that about 15 of their clients have watched it...
Phew!!
