Shrub's flip flop on civil unions = Kerry made the right call in debate 3?
I despised Lynn Cheney's fake outrage at the 100% false suggestion that Kerry somehow "outed" Mary Cheney or unfairly raised her sexual orientation as if Mary Cheney was some innocent bystander (and not a professional Lesbian working on Dick's re-election staff and who had happily allowed Dick and Lynn exploit her sexuality when Dick wanted to mend fences with gay Republicans because of anger about the Constitutional amendment).

I think Elizabeth Edwards was exactly right: Kerry's comments were kind, and only a homophobe (or shamed parent) would think it was an "attack" to mention Mary's sexuality when she was already out of the closet.

Every time this issue made the news, I thought "talk it up loud, clear, and often" because I don't know any Kerry voters who found the comment offensive but I believe there are Bush voters who are so closed minded that they find Mary scandalous (sad, but true). I figured that this issue was a non-issue for Kerry voters but it might dampen the enthusiasm of certain small minded Shrub voters.

More importantly, I think a great majority of voters agree with Kerry on this issue (no marriage, yes civil unions) or they are to the left of Kerry (who does it hurt to recognize gay marriage?), and most Americans view the Constitutional amendment as a harsh, bigoted ploy.

Is Shrub's flip-flop on the issue a tacit acknowledgment that Kerry was right to mention Mary's sexuality and that the publicity this issue got has hurt Shrub?

6. I heard on Nightline tonight that the Repugs are reaching out to
Democrats, which is the reason for their "decisive" candidate's flip-flop on civil unions. That tells us what their internal poll numbers must look like.

7. So with a week until the election, suddently he remembers that he's
supposed to be a "uniter, not a divider" and so he flip flops on an issue that will piss off his base? Stinks of desperation to me.

2. I think it's actually because of Renquist
Bush will lose suburban women if they think outlawing abortion is a real possibility. Renquist turned up the heat on that front and the only available outreach issue to suburban women was gay rights. (Softening his positions on abortion would be fatal to the chimp)

4. I totally agree about Rehnquist
Earlier today, I suggested that we ought to be pushing the right-wing judges issue hard in last minute LTTEs; here's my earlier post:

I am writing my local paper to remind independent voters, Republican women, and anyone concerned about voting rights that Bush has not appointed judges who share their views. Today is the day to send out any letters if you want the best chance of having them printed before the election; here is my letter:

We should all pray for Supreme Court Chief Justice Rehnquist's recovery from cancer. His hospitalization reminds us that the next president will likely appoint several Supreme Court justices.

Remember who Bush has appointed to the courts over many Senators'
objections:

1. William Pryor, who called women's rights over their bodies "the worst abomination in the history of constitutional law" and who called the Voting Rights Act "an affront to federalism and an expensive burden."

2. James Holmes, who wrote that "the wife is to subordinate herself to her husband" and that "the woman is to place herself under the authority of the man" and who said that arguing in favor of a woman's right to reproductive choice is "abandoning what little morality our society still recognizes" which "was attempted by one highly sophisticated, historically Christian nation in our century - Nazi Germany."

3. Charles Pickering, who lobbied to get a reduced sentence in a cross-burning case against a Ku Klux Klansman and who wrote a legal article defending the practice of outlawing interracial marriage.

On November 2, remember that the candidate you vote for will determine which judges are appointed for life to decide the critical issues that America must face.

Obviously he doesn't have any logical thoughts of his own. He just repeats what others say. :eyes:

16. I think this is the same deal where Bush told Matt Lauer that
we can't win the war on terror. He heard other people say it so many times he forgot that he wasn't suposed to say it.

8. Here's a post by a Freeper on the subject:
To: ruralgal; Dr. Eckleburg

This is from the NY Slimes, so I am in doubt as to it's veracity. I'm surprised, but wild horses couldn't keep me from voting for the president on Nov 2. The Times/Kerry camp hopes that we Christians are as bigoted as they think we are. I hope we are better than that. Please brothers and sisters do not conform yourself to the world (and it's ridiculous hate filled view of you), but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what is the good, and acceptable, and perfect will of God.
It doesn't matter what we say about civil unions. It's still wrong and will be punished by God. But there is no reason for us to be his "Enforcers" here on earth."

Interesting that it's just fine by them that we are God's "Enforcers" in Iraq, and anywhere else George wants to play king of the world.

11. Strange but True: Mary's a professional lesbian turned Dick staffer
Straight from college, Mary Cheney went to work as a gay community liaison for Coors Brewing Co., where she was critical in ending a 20-year boycott by the gay community against Coors. Mary left Coors to work with Dick on the 2000 campaign. Currently, Mary is paid about $70,000 a year as the head of Dick’s campaign team.

14. Shrub is making a desperate lunge for the Moderates he abandoned...
...because he knows damned well that his 'base' isn't enough to get him elected anymore.

He's hoping those right-wing fundie types don't notice.

15. No more references to Dick's st*ff, agreed.
But you do have to LOVE that Lynn Cheney pitched a fit about Kerry's reference to Mary's sexuality, but Lynn (and Dick) had no comment whatsoever about Alan Keys comment:

After saying homosexuality is "selfish hedonism," Keyes was asked if that made Mary Cheney "a selfish hedonist." "Of course she is," Keyes replied. "That goes by definition."

For children raised by gay couples incest is “inevitable” because “if we do not know who the mother is, who the father is, without knowing all the brothers and sisters, incest becomes inevitable . . . whether they mean it or not, that is what will happen. If you are masked from your knowing your biological parents, you are in danger of encountering brothers and sisters you have no knowledge of.”
