paranoid fear of Rove -- Iraqi missing arms |
|
Some late night fear-mongering----
This is probably too nuts but.... anybody think that the leak about the missing arms came from Bushco to get Kerry to jump on it so they could discredit his "overreaction?" (Typical Rove ploy.) When the NBC followup came out, the RNC was all over it in seconds...of course now, NBC has bitch slapped the repubs for mischaracteriszing the NBC report and it's the Kerry storyline about incompetence that's lasting.
Still, it's hard to know what that bald fuck would do.....

3. Thing is, Rove lost control of this ball long ago. |

Around the time of Mission Accomplished, I'd say.

They haven't been able to discredit it and it's not going on it's 3rd news cycle. Even if they were able to discredit it now (which they can't) it will have done Bush a good deal of harm.

This has all the earmarks of something they ignored which has now come back to bite them, and they're in the midst of some damage control.
My guess is that this came to light because someone in the Pentagon who's pissed at the neo-cons tipped the press about something that probably never would have been revealed otherwise.

Yes, there are a lot of arms missing in Iraq; along with a lot of other missing body parts.

7. The GOP tried to blur the issue, but failed |

I don't doubt that the Killian memos were some sort of GOP or Rove setup (I think people around here generally give Rove too much credit), but it seems from the various reports today that the New York Times, CBS News, and NBC News are not going to allow this Al Qaqaa story to be spun the way Drudge and CNN attempted to do it about 24 hours ago.

I worried about the same thing. It would be so Rovian, but too risky. The weapons are missing. And are being used on our troops. But this would be so like Rove to try and cover some other evil deed.

unless they have a death-wish. It's much too close to the election and this is far too complex of an issue to sort out in a short amount of time to take that kind of political risk. Plus, there is too much independent verification of what's transpired to be a plant.
It's a fuck up, pure and simple, and the more we learn about the way this outfit does business, the more I'm convinced they are nothing but a pack of incompetent boobs.

that Rove loves to use...throw losts of confusion and sand around, even stuff that hurts him, and give is candidate a simple slogan to 'splain it.
Still, I agree that it's too dangerous a tactic when the missing stuff can bring down planes an blow up buildings.

12. Stick a lump of coal up Rove's ass and you'd have a diamond today. |

The 'NBC followup' wasn't really a followup. Republicans were caught flat-footed, and they were grasping at straws with the Drudge bullshit. That's all it is. Drudge allowed them to at least be able to say something other than the utter confusion and contradiction you heard from the administration when the Times story broke.
They're grasping at straws, there isn't anything Rove can do to make it any better. The only thing they can do is lie and distort, and NBC hasn't make it any easier for them.
This doesn't hurt Kerry, it can't hurt Kerry, this isn't a Kerry story, and the media's not reporting it as such. In other words, the shit they threw at Kerry didn't stick.
Every time Kerry talks about something bad in Iraq, the RNC talking point has been "Kerry wakes up and talks about whatever's on the paper." This isn't the first, and, God forbid, the last time something shitty's happened in Iraq that has hurt our troops.
For my 123,234 cliched metaphor, they're muddying the water, hoping people get too confused by the conflicting reports and just tune out the real story when and if the TV media gets their heads out of their asses and reports it. The Swift Boat Vets are a prime example of this tactic.
You can tell how lazy most of the TV media is is by how they're covering this story. For the interested observer, it should be fairly obvious how complacent they've been by parroting the talking points that when a real story comes up, they don't know how to investigate it.

Kerry should just say that's because there's so much in the fucking paper to talk about.

Or any other piece of jewelery for that matter. :)
As for Rove, this is the real deal. This ain't his baby. This one's the truth.
Last night as I went to bed, I heard a little ditty from long ago come to mind.
"They're coming to take me away, haha heehee hoho. "They're coming to take me away, haha heehee hoho." Only in the White House case, it's gonna be 'us' and not 'me' that they take away. The whole cabal.

14. Maybe Rove Got Out-Roved... |
|
I've seen a bunch of things recently that show me the Kerry campaign is either out Rovian Rove or pre-empting things...and probably with some very inside help.
If you remember when Dem Strategist was here his message was that the enemy was the media and we soon saw how prepared Rove was to dominate a news cycle with lies and distortions that completely put Kerry on the defensive. That worm has turned...and methinks folks like McCurry & Lockhart have done a lot to get ahead of the stories and now may have gotten one up with the release of this story and the Rehnquist one.
The last thing Rove wanted on the cable talk shows this week was Iraq, other than a picture of Bunnypants strutting like the warrior. This now will dog him all week and this loser will try to avoid answering questions.
I'd even go as far to say that whomever promoted this story had their ducks lined up with CBS & NBC or at least the sources here to be ready to debunk the Rove/Freepers that we know are as quick to react as we are. Usually they win this cycle by having the last word while we're double checking our sources...by the time they pan out the story's faded. Not this time.
There's also the back burners of Rehnquist's illness that still hasn't really been made a big issue, but if that isn't one that can be used to energize any "fence-sitting" pro-choice "security moms", I don't know what issue will.
Let's not be complacent, but I think this is a tar baby that's sticking to Rove and Bushco. I wouldn't mind this story being front & center all week and the boy attempting to avoid questions and saying how things are going great with Iraq & the economy. Let him enjoy his final week of the Bubble Tour.
