C-SPAN Poll Workers Needed! Which States?
Edited on Wed Oct-27-04 06:18 AM by crozet4clark
Does anyone know which states need poll workers? If it's within driving distance of central VA, I am up for grabs. :)

Good article in USAToday about this issue, WHY OH WHY can't we make voting day a holiday? It would eliminate so many problems, many more folks would be tempted to volunteer for duty!!

1. Yes, why is voting day NOT a holiday?
Or at least on a weekend or Sunday, just as in many other countries! Makes absolutely no sense.

What would it take to change the Tuesday requirement to a Sunday?

6. My guess is so lower income people
who are usually in jobs where they don't have a lot of leeway for time off will have a harder time voting.

2. you are more than welcome to come to York, Pa. Not sure how
far that would be. Local Dem HQ: 717-812-1200

Two ways to get here:
695/I-95 to 495 (Balto Beltway), toI-83 North; 45 minutes up I-83 you hit York, Pa

695/I-95 to I-270 north, which becomes 15 North. Off 15 North in Gettsyburg, take Rt 30 east for 45 minutes to York.

3. Me, too!
I'm in East, TN, and I'd also be willing to head out somewhere where I could help. I have some knowledge of voting procedures. When I lived in Michigan, I served as a member and chair of a county election commission.

4. poll workers needed in Central Pennsylvania
Besides York, we could use some in the next county north of there, in heavily Republican Cumberland County. Let me know.
