Holy Crow! Christopher Hitchens Endorsese KERRY!
http://slate.com/id/2108714/

Christopher Hitchens, Contributor: Kerry

I am assuming for now that this is a single-issue election. There is one's subjective vote, one's objective vote, and one's ironic vote. Subjectively, Bush (and Blair) deserve to be re-elected because they called the enemy by its right name and were determined to confront it. Objectively, Bush deserves to be sacked for his flabbergasting failure to prepare for such an essential confrontation. Subjectively, Kerry should be put in the pillory for his inability to hold up on principle under any kind of pressure. Objectively, his election would compel mainstream and liberal Democrats to get real about Iraq.

The ironic votes are the endorsements for Kerry that appear in Buchanan's anti-war sheet The American Conservative, and the support for Kerry's pro-war candidacy manifested by those simple folks at MoveOn.org. I can't compete with this sort of thing, but I do think that Bush deserves praise for his implacability, and that Kerry should get his worst private nightmare and have to report for duty.

2. That's an endorsement?
His kind of help Kerry can do without. Once an idiot, now an idiot, always an idiot.

When their food editor has a better grip on world politics than Hitchens, it doesn't speak well for him.

15. Well, for a couple of minutes anyway
He'll be back in the sack again soon, wondering why he ever turned, tearfully begging forgiveness from his drinking pal.

4. What a pompous gasbag.
I wouldn't light a match within 25 feet of him. Maybe 50 if you take the alcohol fumes into account.

6. Reading this is as much like eating broken glass as Andrew Sullivan's was
They're both soooooo pissed that their boy has betrayed them...you have to figure that if Bush has lost these two suck-ups, he's probably lost a way lot of other people we don't even know about.

C ya,

9. I have a dear friend who's always been a Republican
He's a trust-fund baby, born with a silver spoon in his mouth. He's a socially moderate guy- he objected when his church began performing marriage ceremonies for gays and lesbians, but when his sister came out he was most supportive, even joining PFLAG (don't get me wrong, he still attends his same church, but he is opposed to same sex marriage). He's a fiscal conservative who voted for Bush last time, but now isn't sure what he's going to do. His wife cautioned me not to give him too hard a time, since he can get very stubborn. She thinks he's going to vote Nader as a protest vote.

8. Hitchens has "McCain's disease"
Everything he says is for one thing - to get attention. Hitchens has zero integrity or credibility left. He fancies himself as an independent when he really is just an attention whore, like Matthews. At least the ideological right wing pundits actually believe what they say, as wrongheaded as they are.

10. Fascinating. There are 4 Bush votes on that page
Edited on Wed Oct-27-04 08:23 AM by NewYorkerfromMass
The Bush voters generally fall back on this attitude of "Kill all the terrrorsists before they kill us".
Frighteningly simplistic and uninformed.

14. Hitchens endorses Bush
in this week's edition of the Nation.
That must have been his subjective endorsement.
Objectively he says Bush "deserves to be sacked".
Hitchens should be "put in the pillory for his inability to hold up on principle".
The fop flop flip flops.

16. Only with his "ironic vote"
What a pompous bag of wind. That's so clever Chris. You're such a contrarian. On top of that his writing reads like drunken stammering.

In that vein, I will cast my "ironic vote" for Bush because for once in his spoiled life he should not be bailed out of the shit he has created. I want to see him be held accountable when things go completely to shit in 2 more years and a Democratic Congress launches impeachment hearing and investigations over his lies and crooked dealings.

But in the real world, where the election really matters and is not all about George Bush or teaching his partisans a lesson, I want him the fuck out of there. That's why I'll be casting my real vote for Kerry on 11/2.

17. who asked him?
I can't even figure out what the shambling drunk is trying to say. If he's going to vote for Kerry, great, it's another vote for us, but we need his endorsement about as much as we need Madonna's. Maybe less.
