WTF is up in New Jersey?
Bush, Kerry In Dead Heat In New Jersey, Quinnipiac University Poll Finds

October 27, 2004 - President George W. Bush has closed a four-point gap with Democratic challenger John Kerry and the two candidates are locked in a 46 - 46 percent tie among New Jersey likely voters, with 2 percent for independent candidate Ralph Nader, according to a Quinnipiac University poll released today. Six percent remain undecided. Kerry had a 49 - 45 percent lead among likely voters, with 1 percent for Nader, in an October 19 poll by the independent Quinnipiac University.

"We've counted carefully and frequently, but Sen. Kerry hasn't been able to pull away from President Bush in New Jersey, a state which has gone from Democratic blue to dead heat purple," said Maurice Carroll, director of the Quinnipiac University Polling Institute. "The outcome is in the hands of a small group of undecided voters."

"Bush's quick drop in to New Jersey last week probably helped him. Will Kerry and/or former President Clinton stop by before Tuesday?" Carroll added.

1. It's just one poll

Most polls have Kerry with a big lead in NJ.

GOP-oversampled polls and planted stories meant to throw the Dems into a panic.

4. Ridiculous. I live here.
In fact, I live in a very Republican area of New Jersey, and I hardly see ANYONE sporting a Bush sticker, Bush sign, or even willing to say his name without the prefix of, "That Motherfucker". Kerry-related items are prominently on display, however.

6. I Already Addressed This
Expect A Few More " California's In Play" Like Polls Before This

Election Is Over...

There's a new quinnipiac poll at www.realclearpolitics.com that has NJ in a dead heat...

A few things to keep in mind...

Kerry leads by four or five among registered voters....

There's no party id breakdown

It's contradicted by other polls....

Bush's bounce for visiting will wear off... There have been studies where candidates can temporarily move numbers just by visiting an area...

This is the biggest point... Although we were burned in 00 and I am sure the data will support me it's difficult to win the pop vote by a point or so and lose the EC vote...

7. October 19th is an eternity ago in this election.
This poll is already stale. It doesn't take into account the big news of Monday, involving Bush's failure to secure the arms depot after the war.

10. NOTHING IS UP

Republicans are pulling their volunteers from New Jersey. NPR reported this morning that the New Jersey volunteers are heading for battleground states.

New Jersey is a done deal. Move on.

13. I'm in Bergen County NJ...
and while I agree with the above posters that NJ is still a solid Kerry win, I have to admit that I have been more than a bit disgusted by the amount of Bush lawn signs and bumper stickers I have seen in my area.

Most people I know are voting Kerry, and are vocally anti-Bush. But it confuses the hell out of me how anyone in this area could be supporting the shrub.

16. Don't believe that poll . . .
My area is VERY heavily Repug, and yet I am seeing more and more K/E signs as time goes on. As I recall from previous presidential elections, support for the Democratic ticket was never more evident.

More good news: The folks at the local Dem HQ are extremely busy fielding calls from aspiring volunteers and handling requests for lawn signs. They've even run out of K/E buttons!

17. WEAPON OF MASS DEMORALIZATION ALERT!
Please ignore this poll/story/article, as it is a product of the Bush empire's Faith-Based Reality Manufacturing Program. Details here.

19. My Gosh! I Hope We Don't Freakout And Have Huge Dem Turnout!
That would be terrible.

All of the knuckleheads that even thought about voting Nader are never even going to take a chance this year.

New Jersey is going to be a lovely shade of blue this year.

20. BBV is the reason for the outliers........
NJ is vulnerable to shenanigans in the COUNT..... I trust there are lawyers poking their pointed little noses in dark, dank corners.
