Chris and Andy: Will someone explain this?
Edited on Wed Oct-27-04 10:34 AM by maine_raptor
Why is ANY American even LISTENING to these two?(Chris Hitchens and Andy Sullivan)

They're British, right?

They're Right-Wing, right?

THEY ARE BLOODY TORIES, MATE!

if I remember right, I might have read about a small dust-up a couple of hundred years or so where we KICKED Tory ass at a place called Yorktown, ever hear of that?

So will someone please explain to me why any American Citizen, Left, Right, Middle, Top or Bottom (no pun intended, Andy) should be even LISTENING to what two foreigners have to say?

Please, anybody?????

5. I agree.
Although they obviously have U.S. citizenship since they are both voting for Kerry.

But I've never liked either of them. They are both prone to Tory snobbery, especially Hitchens.

6. Snob appeal
Many Americans are still insecure about themselves. They like to be reassured or shaken up by supposedly more sophisticated Brits.

7. Supposedly, Snitchens didn't start out as a right-winger.
He was part of that warhawk liberal wing that joined up with the anti-Communists during the Reagan years. He was originally considered a leftist, but I think there's some 'Israel/Palestine' stuff going on with Snitch, as with the others from the left who ultimately sympathized more with the neoconservatives than with the American left.

Here's the Wikipedia bio:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christopher_Hitchens

He was on the staff of The Nation until they got tired of him praising Bush* and exalting the war in Iraq. He writes for Slate, now, I think.
