My (deep South) hometown paper endorsed Kerry |
|
Pigs flying outside my windows. We are talking a small-ish (30-50 thousand people) deep in the rural South, that naturally endorsed Bush in 2000. Now, they didn't actually use the e-word (endorse)--see below, but they ended with this after a number of Bush bashing paragraphs.
"No matter who is elected, we pray he will lead our nation well, but Bush has done little to deserve such faith. America cannot afford another four years of President Bush.
Though he would inherit several crucial and challenging situations at home and abroad, we believe John Kerry is capable of meeting these challenges."
Now note that the editorial began with the following, which didn't make a lot of sense, especially as it immediately launched into the aforementioned Bush bashing paragraphs.
"The editorial board was unanimous in its candidate endorsements save one -- that of the presidency.
A re-election campaign is a referendum on an incumbent's performance. By this view, a few of the editorial board members cannot endorse President Bush."
