Want to hear some fourth graders comments on bush? Kids are smart.
I went to eat lunch with my daughter at school today. She's become a bit of a political animal and has turned her friends into political junkies, too.

One little girl looked at me and said "My daddy voted for Kerry the other day." I said "That's great." She said "Yeah he owns a business, it's his business, he does pools and he said it's been hard."

I said I understand. Then she leaned into me and said in a stage whisper: "My daddy says bush SUCKS."

I stifled a laugh and she went on to explain that each time bush is on TV, they have to change the channel fast before her "dad gets mad."

Then the little boy next to me said "My mom voted for Kerry and my dad voted for bush."

The little girl who had just said bush sucks looked at him and said "Your dad sounds confused."

The boy shrugged his shoulders. He said "My mom was mad at him for it, too."

My daughter looked at him and said "I can see why. If MY daddy voted for bush, WHOOOOOO, there would be a WORLD of trouble in MY house!"

Ok THEN I had to laugh! (She's right, too.)

1. Yep - the kids are smart
You should be proud of your daughter and her friends.

My son was in 4th grade in 2000. I was amazed at his understanding of the issues and his ability to support his positions.

2. LOL kids say the darndest things!
Yesterday, I was across the street and my freeper neighbor's (a total GOP wingnut) little daughter asked me to pick her up. She was playing with my jacket and saw my pin: (insert snicker here!!)

B: What's that?
me: <deep breath, her mom was right next to me> it's a political pin
B: what's it say?
me: <another deep breath> It says WOMEN for KERRY-EDWARDS
B: Oh I like it, it's pretty...

I think to myself this kid has better taste than her parents!!

4. My six year-old son wrote a book about bush.
He started with the question "How do you spell idiot?"

In one moment I felt both great relief because at some point he has listened to me and some concern for what I must be saying.

5. My neighbor has 2 headstones in his front yard that say...
BUSH and KERRY. My 11-year old son looked at them and said, you really should only have the one that says "BUSH", Kerry's going to win.

I'm so proud!

7. Out hiking the other day and two people walked by with *04 shirts on and
my 5th grader didn't pay any attention. When they were about 100 feet down the trail, she realized what the shirt said. She opened her mouth and said Yuck, They are Bush heads.
I don't know where she got that one.
I thought her mother was going to knock her up-side the head.
I just laughed and then I was the one that got hit.

8. My daughter had her friend over
And she said "Are you going to vote?" I wasn't sure about what her parents thought until she said, "You better vote Kerry, 'cause if Bush gets president again, he will destroy this country!" She went on to say much more and that her parents just voted and were real mad at Bush. They had just watched F911 as a family. I love my girl's chioce in friends!
